I'm looking for a childrens chapter book I read in the mid 1990's about a group of siblings that need to go find their grandmother, their mother has either abandoned them or she has passed suddenly. I remember a scene in their car towards the beginning of the book was important and their grandmother either didn't know about the children or perhaps they have only met once. I believe a sequel was made as well, the oldest sibling is a girl.
