Elizabeth Henry | 10 comments I read this book between 2004 and 2014. A young girl is molested by either her father or step father after wearing a swimsuit, and doesn't tell her mom right away. I remember the book having strawberries, and possibly new shoes for the girl. At the end of the book, the girl realizes the step/father is about to move on to her younger sister, and gains courage to tell her mom about the abuse.

Sexually abused by her father and fearing for the safety of her younger sister, Gilly seeks the courage to tell someone what is happening.

Elizabeth Henry | 10 comments strawberry girl is a typo, I'm sorry. Gillyflower is very possibly it, I ordered it via interlibrary loan and will let you know once I get it!

No worries. What should we replace "strawberry girl" with?

Elizabeth Henry | 10 comments strawberry girl was just supposed to say girl. I changed my title when I was making the post and forgot to take out strawberry

Elizabeth Henry | 10 comments Gillyflower finally arrived to the Alaska library from the Texas library! Although it's missing strawberries, a swimsuit, and a gift of shoes, the plot line that I'm remembering is exactly Gillyflower, so I'm going to say SOLVED! Now I just have to figure out what book I got mixed up with it haha

Rainbowheart | 28686 comments Oh, good, glad it was the right one!

If you want to post a separate thread with your memories of the other book, we can try to track that one down too. :)

Hi! Who is the author of Gillyflower? It sounds interesting and I want to read it but the only Gillyflower I can find was released in 2019 by Diane Wald
