Post here if you are reading or planning to read Exhalation by Ted Chiang. No spoilers please!

Random (rand0m1s) | 1248 comments I've had it since it was released and still have not read it even though I loved Stories of Your Life and Others

Plan on reading it, but wanting to try and finish Dragonfly Falling first.

I started it last night. As some long-time members may know, I am generally not a fan of short stories. We’ll see how this goes.

I'm on a library wait list for this one. Hopefully it comes in soon!

Nick (doily) | 1010 comments Two books I am interested in this month. I'll be starting this one soon.

Cheryl (cherylllr) | 387 comments My second read was just in May, for another group. I often enjoy short stories, especially ones like these.

Joey Anderson | 45 comments I've started and I am in the middle of the fourth story, "The Lifecycle of Software Objects." Nice reading so far, but Chiang really wants to make sure you get the main point.

Random (rand0m1s) | 1248 comments I was browsing through the table of contents.

The first collection Stories of Your Life and Others had multiple editions and at least one of the later editions had some extras stories in it. This is the on I had.

They also happen to be the first 4 stories in Exhalation
The Merchant and the Alchemist's Gate
Exhalation
What's Expected of Us
The Lifecycle of Software Objects

I'm going to take a break from the Shadows of the Apt series on the 4th to try to read through this as I have the day off and no plans other than go for a walk once it gets dark to see fireworks. :)

There are short stories, and there are short stories by Ted Chiang. Two different categories, if you ask me!

Emma (wordsandpeace) | 10 comments "There are short stories, and there are short stories by Ted Chiang. Two different categories, if you ask me!" yes, so true Ryan!
I was very impressed by Stories of Your Life (especially Arrival), so I decided to join you.
I have been actually listening to it - I only have one hour to go.
I am so impressed always by his writing (and same here, I don't often read/enjoy short stories, though they seem to work better for me in the scifi genre).
I like how he uses science, at so many levels.
I also appreciate the author's note after each story, fun to discover why he wrote each story

Right on! Starting this collection today.

Random (rand0m1s) | 1248 comments I'm about half way through and been taking notes in regards to all of those stories.

I ended up doing very little reading over my vacation.
