This is driving me crazy. I can't remember the name of this book or author!
I read it probably 15 or 20 years ago. I believe it takes place on the East Coast. Multiple generations of a family go to their annual summer place, probably for the Fourth of July weekend. There’s interpersonal drama and a tragedy when one of the children is accidentally killed and the rest of the story is the repercussions throughout the family. Female author I think?
I think the kid was killed with a shotgun by accident at night in the garden. But, I could be imagining all that!
