Help me out here please, as usual with MC's books there appear to be several unresolved issues, then again I may be missing something that is obvious to others.
1) Was Julia having an affair (ultimately with Ricky)? The security footage of a passionate (passionate!!!) kiss between the pair seems to indicate so but this kiss occurs *after* both have been infected (both had had body "improvements") - what reason is there to believe this had begun before infection? In addition Mae tells Jack that she has seen addition video which may indicate it is "not what he thinks" - but Jack refuses to look at that and the story moves on and eventually Julia kisses or tries to kiss everyone (in order to infect). It might be thought that Julia kissed Ricky to infect him but Ricky's "body changes" pre-date that so he was already infected.
2) What is the significance of the "swarm" version of Ricky in Julia's car before the crash? This swarm is the "wild" or outside version of the nanobots whereas both the infect Julia and the infect Ricky are the "tame" or inside version of the nanobots - WTF?
3) what was in the empty Champaign glasses that Charley was pointing at (if anything, I may have read to much into that).
If you have figured that out and if you have read "State of Fear" then you might also have an opinion about who does Peter finally have it off with? Sarah or Jennifer?

1. I think that the reason they were having an affair was because the two of them were pushing so hard to keep the swarm alive. Because of the fact that the two of them already had their body improvements before Jack sees the kiss would point to an affair beginning beforehand due to mutual feelings about the swarm.
2. I don't really understand the question you have but I think that the swarm version of Ricky in side the car is merely a manifestation of the swarms attraction to Julia, it follows her outside of the facility and because of Julia teaching it and training it to try and get back inside it could simply be showing her its improvements and what it is able to do now that its evolved.

1) I think the affair could have also been the attraction of the swarms to each other. Humans are just "swarms" of cells and bacteria and such but we think of ourselves as a singular creature. Perhaps the swarms were starting to think of themselves as Individuals and there was an attraction between these two based on Ricky's and Julia's leadership.
2) I'm not sure about the car swarm, perhaps an unsolved mystery to keep us pondering.
3) As for the glasses, Charley knew something was up. They could have infected the glasses with nanoparticles as well, as another way to insure everyone got it.
