WillowRaven (willowraven1) | 352 comments I was going to add this to my prior post however since some had already responded, was afraid this would be missed.

1. Book Depository is closed down. If you try to go to the link, it directs you to a book store for textbook type of books (in google search, its the first listing), mostly medical. I saw this is still listed under the Approved Sites/Stores for verification in the Librarian's Manual.

2. ThriftBooks ..... did not see it mentioned, either way, in the Librarian's Manual - accepted source or not?

Is there any kind of specific criteria a site/source needs to meet to become an "approved" source for verification purposes? What things are considered not good for getting that "approved source" ok?

Thanks again in advance!!

Dobby (dobby0390) | 7857 comments 1. Book Depository did shut down; they no longer exist. The manual hasn't yet been updated.

2. ThriftBooks is not an approved site.

Sites are approved based on their copyright rules. Amazon and its subsidiaries (such as Audible Audio and AbeBooks) are approved. Libraries are approved sites unless they use Overdrive or Hoopla, which we aren't allowed to use. Publishers are OK to use.

Booksellers not affiliated with Amazon are not allowed.

It's always best to ask if you're unsure of a site, as situations do sometimes change. Libraries that use Overdrive or Hoopla is an example of that kind of change.

Thanks for the info, it is much appreciated.

I wonder if Bookdepo is still on the list so we can use cached versions of the website to retrieve cover images (e.g.: https://web.archive.org/web/202212300...).

How were you able to get that to show an actual result via Wayback Machine? I just tried to do a search for 3 different things, and nothing - kept getting error messages that they couldn't find anything for them archived, which is hard to believe as I tried well known authors and books:

1. Judy Blume
2. "Are You There, God? It's Me, Margaret."
3. "The 4 Agreements"

nothing ....

it would be a good thing if you could access the books they have/had for the store, however if their search doesn't want to work ....
