Hello, I’m writing about an American fiction novel I have read in the last 4-5 years. Contemporary, starts out in NYC, I believe. The protagonist is a bit of a loser but he is obsessed with music. He hears a song - maybe in the park, maybe at a record store, I can’t recall - and he becomes obsessed with tracking it down, believing it will make him rich or famous or that it’s extremely special in some way and he MUST find its original recording. It seems perhaps people don’t want him to find it. He starts to go a little crazy. It has a twist ending that I can’t remember either.
