This is the thread where you can submit a task idea for the 50 Point Task contest. The thread is now open for submissions and will close at Midnight Eastern time on July 5th. Voting will start the next day, July 6th and will close at the end of the day on July 12th. If the moderators determine that the vote is close, a 3-day runoff poll will be held. The person whose idea gets the most votes will host the 50 point task for the Summer Challenge.

The 50 point task will require:
1. Only 3 options. These options may not include more than 2 "sub options" - 6 total in the task.
2. One book per option.
3. Three books totaling at least 750 pages. Your task idea may require a higher page threshold but this must be disclosed in your entry.
4. No books with the genres children or kids on the main book page may be used.
5. Books whose main page lists any of these genres: Sequential Art, Comics, Comic Book, or Manga may not be used.
6. No “free choice” options will be allowed. This is a challenge, so tasks that have no element of challenge do not fit the purpose.
7. A task must be accessible to the majority of players, i.e. not limited to a specific format, edition, publisher, etc. and reviewable by the moderators.

Anyone eligible* to design a task may submit an idea for a task that follows the general guidelines above. Your idea should be a sketch that may be developed with the moderators.

* To be eligible to create a task, the player’s profile must be set up to accept Goodreads messages, and they must not have a task in the current challenge. Only one task per person per challenge.

The group will vote to determine the 50 point task. All ideas that fit the general guidelines will be included in a poll. The poll winner will develop their idea with the moderators to refine their task. The final task may differ from the original idea submission. The task will be posted as close to the midpoint as reasonably possible. The task creator will monitor and answer questions in the help thread.

Please include your Readerboard name and a title for your task. The entries will be listed by Readerboard name and task title in the poll. Please include only one task idea entry per post.

PLEASE DO NOT comment on people's entries in this thread - this is for submissions only. You will be able to comment on the poll when voting begins. Comments in this thread will be deleted.

Summer Storms-
I have four kids in total, two that are living and two that are unfortunately in Heaven.
They're all Summer babies in one way or another and I thought making a task to honor them would be fun.
This is a 3 book task, one book for each option.

Book 1- Finn is what is called our Sunshine baby, he is a baby born before a miscarriage or loss.
Option 1- Read a book with the word SUNSHINE, SUNRISE, or SUN in the title
Option 2- Read a book where an authors first and last initial can be found in FINNLAN JAMES.

Book 2- Greyson and Henry are my angel babies, they are the storm.
Option 1- Read a book with STORM, THUNDER, RAIN, or LIGHTNING in the title or a storm on the cover
Option 2- Read a book by an author who's first and last initial can be found in GREYSON NATHANIEL or HENRY OLIVER
If multiple authors only one of the authors have to meet the requirement.

Book 3- Juniper is our rainbow baby, she is a baby who came after a loss.
Option 1- Read a book with a rainbow on the cover or RAINBOW in the title
Option 2- Read a book by an author who's first and last initial can be found in JUNIPER HENSLEY GRACE

Everyone's talking about the Summer Olympics in Paris, but there are many other sporting events happening in Europe this summer. This task celebrates the Wimbledon tennis tournament, the Euro 2024 soccer tournament, and the Tour de France bicycle race.

This is a three-book task, one book for each sporting event.

Wimbledon:

Option 1: I've always thought that the quirky scoring for tennis was oddly charming. In honor of its eccentricity, read a book with 15, 30, 40, or LOVE in the title. (Numbers may appears as numerals or spelled out.)

Option 2: Wimbledon is known for its association with the British royal family. King George V was the first British royal to present trophies to the winners; King George VI actually played in a doubles match (he lost quite badly); Prince Edward, Duke of Kent, was the president of the AELTC; and Elizabeth II and Catherine, Princess of Wales, have served as patrons. Read a book written by an author named George, Edward, Elizabeth, or Catherine. Variants or alternate spellings will be accepted.

Euro 2024:

Option 1: You can kick a soccer ball or even head it, but you can't use your hands. Read a book with a cover that shows a person's foot and/or head, but no hands.

Option 2: Euro 2024's round of 16 is upon us as I type. Read a book that is set at least 50% in one of the countries in the round of 16: Switzerland, Italy, Germany, Denmark, England, Slovakia, Spain, Georgia, France, Belgium, Portugal, Slovenia, Romania, Netherlands, Austria, or Turkiye.

Tour de France:

Option 1: As everyone knows, the leader in the Tour de France wears a yellow jersey. Read a book that is at least 50% yellow, according to Tineye.

Option 2: By contrast, the rider who has taken the most time is called the lanterne rouge, or "red lantern" (they used to have to ride the next day with a little red lamp under their saddle, which sounds so embarrassing). Get rid of one of your red lanterns by reading a book that is the last (or at least the latest) volume in a series.

Angeliki (jelojelo) | 79 comments A new capital

Jakarta is the capital of Indonesia with more than 30 million inhabitants and the fastest-sinking city in the world, as parts of it could be completely submerged in less than 30 years. This motivated the development of the new capital on the island of Borneo, called Nusantara. On 17 August 2024, the inauguration of the new capital will take place, by hosting the celebration of the 79th anniversary of Indonesia's Independence.

This is a 3 book task.

Book 1

Travel to a capital city! Read a book that takes place in a national capital city, other than the country you currently live in.
State in your post in which country you live and to which country you are "travelling".

Book 2

According to government officials, the development of the new capital on the island of Borneo was motivated in large part by the myriad of environmental challenges faced by Jakarta. Frequent flooding, heavy traffic, hazardous air pollution, and drinking water shortages are common occurrences. Jakarta is also quickly sinking. Excessive groundwater withdrawals have contributed to subsidence rates of up to 15 centimetres (6 inches) per year, and 40% of the city is now below sea level.
Read a fiction or non-fiction book with MPG Climate, MPG Environment, or MPG Ecology.

Book 3

The creation of a new capital is no simple move and as expected has created mixed reactions and controversy.

Option 1
The optimistic mindset is that Nusantara will be a new forest city featuring smart city initiatives and cutting-edge technology based on sustainable and inclusive development.
Read a book from the first 15 pages of the Utopia shelf. State in your post on which page you can find the book.

Option 2
Some have dismissed Nusantara as simply an opportunity for President Widodo to leave a lasting legacy after his second term ends in 2024. Others worry that land use change could harm the forests and wildlife in the region. The stretch of land and coastal waters being developed are rich in biodiversity and home to mangroves, proboscis monkeys, and Irrawaddy dolphins.
Read a book from the first 15 pages of the Dystopia shelf. State in your post on which page you can find the book.

Jecca | 733 comments Lighthouses:

Lighthouses are one of my favorite things; I love to visit them, I collect pictures and decorations of them, I currently own a lighthouse passport and map of all of the lighthouses in the US, and I have a one tattooed on my body. I am intrigued by the history and they are part of my feng shui.

My favorite time of year to visit them is over the summer when I take a vacation with my family (even if it's just a day trip to Maine).

This is a three book task, pick one option from each state

Michigan - Did you know Michigan has the most lighthouses out of any other US state? I find this fact fascinating (no, I don't really know why).

Option 1. Read a book set in the state of Michigan. If it is not clear from the description post a reference.

Option 2. There are over 150 lighthouses (active and inactive) in the state. Read a book that shares a four or more letter word with one of these lighthouses.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...

North Carolina - Specifically the Outer Banks, is known as the Graveyard of America for the treacherous waters and number of shipwrecks.

Option 1. Read a book by an author whose initials can be found in OUTER BANKS.

Option 2. read a book about a shipwreck. It can be fiction or NON-fiction. It can be about the actual wreck or about the exploration of the site of the wreck. It can be about the search for a site, even if the site is not located.

Massachusetts - Did you know the Boston Light was the first lighthouse in America? Boston light is located in the Boston Harbor and is the 2nd oldest working lighthouse in the US. The original structure was destroyed in the American Revolution, but it was rebuilt.

Option 1. Read a book that is the first in a series of at least 2 published books. It must the have the lowlighted series name and number.

Option 2. Massachusetts and lighthouses themselves are filled with history. Read a book with MPG history. It can be embedded or standalone.
