Second book plot (trilogy)

While at court the young man is put in an arranged marriage with a foreigner, but he doesnt love her because hes in love with the older princess in secret, (their love has to be secret because if anyone was to know they'd think hes trying to make a grab for the throne like his mom did) while he ends up getting married he learns to enjoy his new wife's company and visits her home country and learns about this old magic in the woods of her country and the shapeshifters that can shift into bear form that dwell there. When he goes into the woods in search of some culprits he meets the bear people and they have a tussle. For some reason the bear chief is dead set on killing his new wife. When hes away learning about the old magic in the woods the bear chief people attacks the family strong hold and ends up killing his new pregnant wife and he gets hurt trying to save her. He then gets on a boat and hunts down this shapeshifter leader and he be heads him and goes back to the courts of his home country where he see's the older princess and they embrace passionately and get caught and the queen is furious and he goes on the run with his banished moms family, but the older princess visits him and they make a stand for their love and everything gets figured out.

I read this series during the summer of the Covid-19 quarantine and I’m not sure if the series was new then, I dont think it was.
