I reeeeeeally disliked this book. I disliked it to the point that I am actually angry that I had to waste an Audible credit on it, LOL. For starters, the random memories felt misplaced and awkward… A lazy attempt to fill in the huge gaps in the author’s writing that run rampant throughout this entire story. It was so hard to get into & follow along with this one. Shoddy writing and terrible pacing; the timeline was all over the place, but not in a cool “revelation foreshadowing” type of way. This entire book felt like a whole lot of nothing was happening, then things would just go off the deep end. The story was unrealistic and contrived, with absolutely no build-up. Enormous plot holes/flaws… Example: The spiders are “harder to smuggle than cocaine”, yet her husband has no issues with his connect? So next-level ridiculous and way too convenient. And despite the fact that the story had no flow and no build-up, the twists STILL managed to be way too predictable! And wtf was with that ending? The author flashes from the altercation to the MC & daughter being saved… Then back to the altercation? WHY did the writer sequence events like this? It made for SUCH a painful read! Ugh. 1.5 stars, rounded up ,because I guess it was better than one star (although it was pretty dang close).

I really enjoyed this. The mental health rep, complex mother relationships, marriage struggles, reimaginging your life if you made different decisions. it was surprisingly relatable in the way the author discussed real life conflicts and issues people have. excited for this live show! glad I didn't let all the bad reviews completely color my perception of the book!

this book was far too slow for me. i had a hard time getting in to it. i had a feeling duncan was too nice. i was happy he ended up being the murderer tbh. idk im just not a fan of books where we constantly have to wonder if the woman is killing ppl without knowing it herself.
The first part was very slow and hard to get into for me. After I reached part 2, it got better. All the confusion and convolution actually made for an interesting story to me. However, as soon as the detective mentioned the murder in Hong Kong, I knew Duncan had to be the culprit. It was all a bit too coincidental. I don't really like when I figure out a book before it happens. I like to be surprised. So I was a bit sad when it turned out I was right. The ending was a bit too convenient for me. It all came together a bit too perfectly, was easily explained in 2 minutes, and that was it. I also didn't like how the MC was basically playing armchair therapist in the end and some other parts in the book. It was all explained a bit too thoroughly, like we're analysing a case report instead of reading a thriller. And it was somewhat weird to read it coming from the MC, with her losing track of everything throughout most of the story. I did really enjoy the talk about mental health, having a look into someone's life who is dealing with OCD and learning more about that, as well as all the personal struggles of the main character. I started feeling for her more and more. I don't know, there were a lot of aspects to the story that I did like, but also some that I didn't. I would give it 3.5 stars I think.

The book did not surprise me at all. I knew Duncan wasn't what he appeared to be. It would have been too obvious if Annie was the killer, there'd be no real story. Part 3 read faster and the pace was better. My feelings didn't change about the characters. Never connected with any of them, they were all flat. I find it hard to believe that the bratty angsty teenager changed her tune way too quickly and was the lovely teen daughter. Not a fan of the book, would not recommend. Glad it's over.

it was a struggle to get through the first 2/3s. Once the intrusive thoughts slipped out of the story, the plot started to feel smoother, but it was still difficult to grasp what was happening when--especially in the audiobook. it wasn't a satisfying read, and I usually like this type of voice-in-the-head narratives

I liked part 3 but the storylines lined up very conveniently. I was happy that the intrusive thoughts and convulted writing cleared as it helped to propel the story forward. I was suprised that that Duncan switched out her meds and maybe installed aromatics in the ac unit. I liked Tabby's growth throughout the story. I enjoyed the growth of Annie's and Tabitha's relationship.
