Linde | 6549 comments A place for librarians to ask for help with a Dutch request. I'm Dutch, so I can check it afterwards. Other (Dutch) librarians, feel free to help =D
Please send links in to requests that require attention, add books or edit books.

For librarians only. And librarian assistants :)

Regular users of Goodreads can post their requests in their correct folder, to find the right one, see this: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
Do you want to help? Apply to be a librarian: https://www.goodreads.com/about/apply...

Emmy de Reus (nyneve) | 20400 comments I'm Dutch too, so I can also help out with Dutch-language requests. And I'm also active in a Dutch group: Fanatieke Nederlandse lezers where adding and edit requests are being made:

Emmy de Reus (nyneve) | 20400 comments # 8: afgehandeld
# 9: afgehandeld
#10: afgehandeld
#11: afgehandeld
#12: afgehandeld

Oops! afgehandeld=done
I'll comment in English next time, so the other librarians can understand too ;)

message 14: by Olga (new)

Olga Silvertongue (olgasilvertongue) | 6743 comments I like this word. I understand "handeld", it is similiar to "handled". I guess "afge" refers to time... similar to "has been"?

message 15: by Priscilla (new)

Priscilla (prisv88) | 276 comments I hope I do this right now. Here's a request I found.

https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

I asked for more information.

(I'm not a librarian yet, but assistent)

The person who requested the book never responded on a question.

Are librarians able to add missing ISBNs? This book only has ISBN10.

message 34: by Emmy (new)

Emmy de Reus (nyneve) | 20400 comments Yes, but only when the isbn to be entered is not yet taken elsewhere in the GR database.

See also: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

In the linked record (post #33) the isbn10 was wrongly entered into the isbn13-field.
There's also a duplicate record, see here:
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...

I'll ask Support to merge the two.

That's very unfortunate. It looks like neither you, nor the person from GR Support who did the merge, took the first* essential step in merging a duplicate edition, which is separating the duplicate and its merge target from the other editions.
(See manual: https://help.goodreads.com/s/article/..., scroll down to How to merge two identical editions)
(*There is a second essential step, see 4b and 5)

The duplicate Dutch edition is now merged into the default English edition, instead of into the matching valid Dutch edition.

Emmy de Reus (nyneve) | 20400 comments @Arenda
I was under the impression that Support would also take care of the necessary separation of the two duplicate records as well as the recombining of the kept record after the successful merge....

It shouldn't be necessary that we - simple librarians - need explain staff which steps are to be taken when asking to merge two duplicate records when this can't be done by ourselves due to too many shelvings and/or existing ISBN's or ASIN in the record that is to be merged.

Edited to add the following
I've written Support

I'm sorry having to revert to this subject.
This morning I discovered that I've been reprimanded by a Dutch Superlibrarian for not having made the necessary preparation by separating the two duplicate records prior to the requested merge.
See this topic ( https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/... ), post #35. I replied per post #36.
I would appreciate your comment.
