1. within the last 3-5 years
2. Not sure.. Maybe more of a twentysomething audience
3. It may have been largely black. Books can have more than one cover tho
4. No. I am sure it was just the one.
5. For the main character - it started around 5 and went to 18-20 I think.
The only similar story I can think of isSuch a Pretty Girl by Laura Wiess
One Foot Wrong might be more probable? From one of the reviews: "There is one scene towards the end where Hester confronts her parents which was not what I was expecting at all, and was a little unsatisfying, OK, I'll say it, she axes them to death while they sleep."

I read it shortly after reading 'room'. I think the title of the book might has started with an S.
It was written from the perspective of the young girl so the writing was very 'simplistic' who was not allowed to go to school (except for one day), and she had chores like mopping and whatnot and I think she slept in a basement?? and when she was around 9 her father started to have sex with her. I *think* she was sent to live in some kind of home after 13 or so. She leaves it at the end to go home and kill both of her parents by chopping them up with an axe.
