Julie | 2 comments -Boy was burned as a child in a house fire
-He and family move back to Slovakia
-His background was part Roma and he and his family were discriminated against in their new home in Slovakia
-There is one scene where he is peed on by a bully because of his ethnicity and another where he and his dad have to bribe an official for their mom/wife to get medical treatment
-He starts working out and weight lifting so that the bully can’t pick on him as easily
-He has a premonition about a guy choking to death on his lunch, prevents it, and then Death has the guy choke at dinner instead, lesson from that scene was that you can’t change death
-He can see when death is about to happen
-There are other spirit/fae/mythological characters
-I can’t remember anything much about the resolution of the plot
-I believe the title is in Slovak or the Roma language, but I can’t remember the word. I do think it was one word and it might have started with a ‘P’. The body of the book was in English though (or translated into it for the copy I read)
-I think the cover was a young male in black and white with a fire colored tattoo on his arm?
-Slovakia was definitely separate from the Czech Republic in the book so that means it HAS to have been published post 1993, definitely wasn’t later than mid 2010s based on when I read it
