Also the plot is - "I would rather go to your funeral than to your marriage with that man!" Lady Darlington's angry retort to the news that her pretty daughter Monica was planning to marry a fellow member of the Greenham Golf Club did not indicate a dislike for the "royal and ancient game" or those who play it. Her concern lay solely in the fact that the man of Monica's choice was Obobo, the son of a native chief in a British Colony. Others at Greenham had already showed resentment over Monica's evident preference for the dusky visitor; not least her own brother, Gerald, who saw in it a possible threat to his own marital ambitions. Then, in a mixed foursomes competition, Death played a round and claimed a victim on the first tee. Ruth and Roger Bennion were among the competitors, and when Superintendent Yeo was detailed to find the murderer he asked Roger to assist him. Action must be swift and decisive, for on the outcome might well hinge the destiny of a whole people. This book is very much of its time and contains language and ideas no longer felt to be appropriate
