MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) | 5312 comments So, we read The Rook this year and I really loved it.

I've been waiting anxiously for the sequel to be released. I'm also particular about formats so I want the hardback copy of the next book because I have The Rook in hardback.

I got an email this weekend that the hardback version of this book will be released in Jan 2016.

The ebook will be released June 2015.

SERIOUSLY??? I'm all for having ebooks and I like them but my preferred format is paper and I want the Hardback! I feel like they are begging me to get this damn book 2nd hand for cheap. Cause I would have borrowed the ebook from the library by then.

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Weird. So all the people who don't yet have e-readers can't read the book for 6 months?

Oy vey.

IKR? Why not just do a full release? Why must it all be so complicated?

That's a good question. I'm clueless. Let me see if I can find out.

Yeah - I was wondering if this is part of the issue, since it's a UK author?

colleen the convivial curmudgeon (blackrose13) | 2976 comments I just checked, and it does appear to be different publishers releasing each version.

So, from what I can see for the UK:

- The hardback is showing as available to buy now but the release date is showing as July 2016.

- The ebook is showing as a pre-order with a release date of June 2020.

WTF is going on here??

ANy UK people awake and care to take a gander?

Also, what's up with Heads of Zeus being the pub? My copy shows it was pubbed by Little, Brown. So, did they drop him or...?

And can you put a hardcopy of Stilleto in your basket?

Let's just hope they don't start an erotica line, or we might find out."

message 15: by Nyssa (new)

Nyssa | 2023 comments I thought Hardcover books always came out first!?!

What I've seen in the past (States wise) is either:

Hardcover
Ebook
Paperback

or

Hardcover & Ebook
Paperback

or

Hardcover
Ebook & Paperback

Then there are books that either never get a Hardcover, or never get an Ebook.

message 16: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) From what I've seen, at least as far as my limited new-book-following goes is that ebooks are generally released at the same time as the major print release.

message 17: by Øystein (new)

Øystein | 55 comments I have seen some cases where ebooks are realased earlier than hard/paperback. To my mind this only makes sense as the ebook can probably be "ready for shipping" a lot faster than the physical copies. I have never seen this gap being more than a week or so though.

Hard as nails.

Thaddeus White | 69 comments It does seem very peculiar. I can see why releasing in various formats might be staggered somewhat, but six months seems excessive.
