YA Fantasy. I read this book between 2000-2008.
As I remember it, it was about an orphaned girl (early teens) running around the streets of a fictional city not in modern times. In my memory she kind of stumbled across the magical knife with holes and was horrified when she discovered how the knife drained a person she stabbed. It might also be unable to be removed before the person was drained. Such a knife was very sought after and she was on the run. She might have been a thief or recruited to become an assassin.

I found it in the liberary's fantasy section with the likes of Tamora Pierce. It was also in Danish.

Thank you so much for the list. I still haven't found the book yet. I find it odd as it is specific. I'm beginning to think I might have made up the universe in my own mind.

I was very excited when Shadow and Bone came on Netflix. For some reason that sparked my memory to think it is this book, which it is not.
