brilliant girl

Teach people about the ideas and concepts behind the act of rape, instead. They are ugly as can be. Teach people that raping someone is one of THE WORST sexual crimes that can be committed against anyone - it is NOT funny, it is NOT to be done "just for kicks". Make rape a truly PUNISHABLE, criminal offense, with clear parameters. Teach people to respect each other, and really communicate; and then maybe, stopping acts of rape completely will become a reality.

Ideally, we could just wave a magic wand and make it go away, but since that isn't happening, think smart, learn some self defense, and decide what kind of weapon you're comfortable being responsible for -- and then spend the time it takes to become proficient with it. Don't depend on others to rescue you, because if someone who could rescue you was around, the rapist likely wouldn't make his move in the first place.
In the meantime -- YES, keep up with education and prosecution, so men learn it isn't acceptable. But this doesn't mean you shouldn't think safe.
I'm not afraid because I know I can take care of myself if someone comes after me. It isn't about fear, it's about owning my power, and about being self-sufficient.
