Alejandro Silver (alejandsilver) | 1387 comments I have a trouble trying to add the author Julio Verne to spanish editions of Jules Verne. Changes are not saved when adding additional author.

Renske | 12220 comments If two name are too similar it does indeed not work. There is a workaround, by adding something else and then editing that name later. It could just be adding JulioVerne without a space and then merging JulioVerne into Julio Verne.

Dobby (dobby0390) | 7858 comments You don't need to merge the author names. After you've saved the record with the temporary name (JulioVerne), go back and edit the name to the correct spelling (Julio Verne). Save the edit, and the record will update.

It's indeed not needed to merge profiles, but I try to avoid leaving behind empty profiles.

Good point!

minzi | 388 comments I observed a similar issue with a different author: changes to the secondary author by adding more spaces (to change to another author with the same name) will not be saved. Deleting the secondary author, saving, adding the secondary author again (with more spaced) and saving again solved the issue, I believe ...

Renske | 12220 comments When editing a secondary author you need to use the save button that appears next to the role slot. If you use the normal ways to save the page it does indeed not work.

Arenda | 26447 comments When there are multiple titles or editions that needs the secondary author, adding the secondary name without a space to all of them, and merging the author profile when that is done is by far easier than having to edit each book two times.

Oh wow, how did I not see that ...!? Thanks a lot! I hope I'll remember the next time when I try to edit secondary authors!
