I have a lot of books set in Europe, but they don’t all “Europe”tags. If I wasn’t in the BWF challenge, this would be a no brainer. Even though I’m tired of WWII books, there are always great new ones, and I like the post war books that are coming out. I’d hope to discover new authors.
I like many Social Justice topics. I would want more fiction books with a small numbers of tags. There are a lot of sci-fi, fantasy and lit fic book that deal indirectly with topics such as women’s rights, inequality, colonialism, poverty, blm, racism, nationalism, immigration, and pivotal times in history. I probably have more tag+ letter matches for this one, and the most letter matches with L, S, A.
I like time travel, but I know some don’t.

That makes this a no brainer. I've voted.

Well ... it was once part of the EU! Some countries making up the United akingdom still are - Ireland.
You will also find books set in Turkey and Russia as well - countries that are also part of Asia. Island nations like Iceland, Greenland, Malta.
Not just settings but authors from countries considered part of the European continent have their works tagged Europe even if not set there.

Note that time travel comes up in MANY genres--romance (not just the Outlander series, either,) literary fiction, mainstream, scifi (of course)--to name a few--and also many are in cross-genre books, so you can have mysteries and many other things. To Say Nothing of the Dog is a mystery plus has a romance in it, for example, plus humour.

I agree - There are a surprising number of mystery, crime and history books with time travel. I fit in a couple this year for variety. I want to read Ministry of Time as soon as I can get it. The time travel books fit the letters really well too.
I just went through the whole Europe tag list and found a lot of books I want to read, but the ones I want the most don’t have the right letters for BWF. I keep skipping over The Name of the Rose, but if Europe wins, I’ll finally read it. There are enough to keep me busy.
I’m happy that i was able to read books from all around the world this year, though I probably overdid it with England ( and the 1800’s).
Has anyone ever found a work-around to see beyond page 25 on the tag lists? Are there any gr librarians here?

I'm a GR librarian (not the top level) and to the best of my knowledge there is no workaround to see the rest of the tags after the first 25 pages.
ETA -- you can't because GR is programmed to stop making tag pages after 25. I'm not sure why this is the limit, but they can't have it unlimited since shelves/tags such as "fiction" would have far too many pages. Also, many users don't use the shelves to the same extent that we at PBT do :)

Turkey is on 2 continents but split by the Bosporus so I guess they should only classify northern Istanbul as Europe if they wanted to be sticklers for the rules......However definitely plenty of interesting history in Istanbul and often included in Historical mysteries or Dracula type books because of the history with Vlad.

Agreed on the time travel. Turns out I'm accidentally reading one now. Almost tempted to pause and finish it if the tag wins....but it is good.

I've been off work all week as I have chicken pox for the 3rd time and am confounding the medical industry by having a positive swab test and positive immunity never mind all the other tests they sent me for contradicting each other. I've done zero reading due to being busy scratching which is very disappointing as I planed to make use of the time reading. Oh well they have confirmed I'm a weirdo and not much else.....

OMG I have never heard of anyone getting it twice! Way to have 15 minutes of fame -- not! I am so sorry to hear it - you must be going mad. Hoping you get past this soon.

The good news is 2nd and 3rd time I've only had the spots, not the other symptoms but they are not sure if that means I'm contagious or not so standard don't go near people applies. Several of my colleagues and ex-colleagues have had it more than once but I guess we are around teens all the time so if anyone was to get it we would.

I hope you feel better soon, Jen! Be sure to get a shingles vaccination when your doctors recommend it.

Yeah I went to pox parties as a kid but never caught it. The vaccine didn't exist until my mid 20s and by then I was in UK where they don't vaccinate (vaccine protects somewhat from the pox but after being vaccinated you can get shingles instead so not that great). Each country does their own thing for their own reasons. Another difference Is Hep A and B vaccines. Aus just says you are immune for life after the series but UK strongly suggests you check immunity levels after 5 and 10 years to see if you hold immunity well. Turns out almost everyone I know does not hold immunity for Hep B past 10 years, most of us not much past 5. Hep A seems to last closer to 10.
Got the pox for the first time at 27, then again at 33, both times from school as well as this time. I'm not indigenous so not eligible for shingles vaccine until I'm 70 unless I pay almost $1000. Indigenous you get it at 50. Doc doesn't think I'm high risk anyway since I got the pox past 50 and have been around shingles and the pox at school over the last month.
I do like to confuse doctors.

Too bad about the vax not protecting people from shingles. The only people who can't get shingles are people who haven't had chicken pox or the vax for it, which means that once everyone is vaccinated for it the percentage of people at risk for it is higher.
My mother, sister and I had chicken pox together before I can remember (but I've seen a photo of my sister and I when we were recovering) but didn't go to a pox party. My sister got shingles at 14 and I got it at 27 (the MD I had that year had poor bedside manner and told me, before looking, that I didn't have it! Good bedside manners would have had him say something like it's unlikely...) Both before the vax and neither of us is going to get the shingles vaccine even though we're from a generally pro-vax family.

Yeah I'm generally pro vax but unless there is a major change to my health I won't get the shingles jab (at least not until I'm past 70 if I live that long) as I don't have a spare $1000 for it and am not indigenous. I don't get flu jabs or covid (now that I won't get fired for not getting it.....I did get it to keep my job) either since both are constantly around school and I've never had either. Have been jabbed for all sorts of weird stuff including smallpox and yellow fever and all the standards that can kill you or others.
Vaccines have been a wonderful invention but some don't seem necessary unless you are around those with poor immune systems.

That's probably good for them.
Medicine is like teaching. There is no one size fits everyone. There's too much individual variation.

*Months* of pain - - Thanks for the added motivation to go get it! I thought I got the first shot many years ago, but it’s not in my doctor’s records. I also need to get a pneumonia shot. Are they still giving Covid shots?

Yes, Covid shots are available at Walgreens and CVS, if not at your clinic. Last fall I went to Walgreens 4 weeks in a row for Covid, pneumonia, flu and tetanus, which they found from their records that I needed. You can get multiple ones at the same time, but I preferred not to, I didn't have side effects from any of them. The shingles shots do often have more short-term effects, sore muscles, feeling ill, tender area around the site, etc. Still worth it in my opinion.

After getting my 2nd shingles vax a short while ago, I asked how long it is good for, when I'd need a new one. I was told it's for life. Having known many who have gone through what Robin did and worse - some having vision affected, other serious lifelong side effects to getting it - I made sure to get it, even though I have very severe reactions to any shot that have me sick for days. Oddly, I had little reaction to the shingles shot!
But it being good for life is another reason to get it given the severity of the illness if you contract it.
I had chicken pox when I was 5. I also had scarlet fever at the same time. I was a very sick little girl and too sick to even scratch.

Thanks I’ll put it on my calendar for the day after my son’s bday party next week.

Wow, it's free in over here with insurance as far as I know, but the severity of shingles varies and tends to be worse with age. However, nowadays there are antiviral medications which can help; there were none when I got it, but since I was only 27 it wasn't a severe case and the pain was gone in six weeks. Plus it wasn't in my head.

I suspect the sun! Sunblock, Nancy, Sunblock!
