Possibly YA. Pretty sure it was not a series. Read in English in US, probably written after 2014. Placed in the current world, no magic or SF elements.

Main character is a high school or possibly college age girl who grew up with her father. Suddenly her father disappears and ships her off to a boarding school, which turns out to specifically train assassins. They are drugged when going to or from the school, so they don't actually know where in the world it is. They've been there for years and she's joining late, but games she played with her father were good prep. The assassin kids come from several families around the world that take animal names, including owl, bear, lion. The families are associated with things like the CIA, but not just American, and are in deadly competition with each other. Both her parents were outstanding students at the school and were in competing families, but her mother was killed and her father went underground to get revenge. She ends up building a posse and leaving the school and defeating the head of the lion family.
