It was a collection of 2-3 books. Not short stories, but a series. I don’t think the series were a “continuation” of the previous story, but rather a related story, if that makes sense. I think the title had something about secrets in it.

The one I remember clearly is a 14-16 year old goes to stay with a foster type family, I believe a distant relation. The ghost is the daughter who had died, possibly falling down an elevator shaft. I believe that it was set at least in the 1950s, I don’t think modern conveniences existed in the book.
