SOLVED. Young Fantasy book where all wizards have turned into trees. [s]

The protagonist was a young boy who worked for a magician in his magic shop. Customers would get magic remedies from the shop. The boy was left to tend the shop alone and learned to make the remedies. In the world of this book there used to be several kinds of magic users that were more powerful than magicians. The most powerful were the wizards and I think after them it was sorcerers. The only ones left are the magicians, all others are gone from the world. I know for certain that when the wizards died they turned into trees, maybe that was the case for the sorcerers too. There's a forest with all of the trees. I think the wood comes into play at some point.

I'm really unsure about this part but I feel like deep into the book there's a twist where the boy discovers he's made of wood. I'm not certain about that part though. Unfortunately that is all I remember, it was about 10 years ago that I read it so I was probably 11 years old. Thank you!
