The best middle-grade book I read in April was MRS. FLEENEY'S FLOWERS. This book has been one of the most enjoyable Middle-grade reads for me this year. It's a beautifully crafted story about a family's battle with mental health issues, and the bond that forms between a young girl and her elderly neighbor, who meticulously tends to her flower gardens.
More About Paddington was the best book I read this month. That little bear brings me so much joy.

The best book I read in April was Shinji Takahashi and the Mark of the Coatl, a fast-paced, exciting mythology based fantasy-adventure that takes Shinji on a high-stakes trek across the world, running from an unscrupulous corporation and unknowingly being manipulated by a villainous guardian spider. I cannot wait to pick up the sequel. I also very much enjoyed It Watches in the Dark and Invisible.

Yes, Paddington is a classic. I wish it was more widely available on this side of the "pond" (Canada)

Notables for me from April include The Wolf Wilder by Katherine Rundell, which is set in Russia. Think of a wolf wilder as the opposite of a wolf tamer. When Feo's mother is accused of witchcraft, she must rely on her wolves to survive ... and to go to the rescue. I also finally got around to reading Small Spaces by Katherine Arden, which is the first in a series of MG horror. If you (or your kids) like scary stories, this has all the tropes. And I've been wanting to finish the Ranger's Apprentice series by John Flanagan. I made it partway through a few years back, then stalled out for some reason. So a re-read was in order before I proceed. I've added this to my GMGR 2024 Series Challenge goals, and I already zoomed through the first four books. They're great. Like ... really great.
