I would not have dumped the stock immediately, but I would have really taken it hard at the prospect of losing close to a million dollars. If I had been advising Nick, I would have told him to make a big public thing about how millions of hard-working Americans have lost their savings and use that to demand legislation, make the company better, etc.
I thought they handled it well. They dumped the stock which they did not want Nick associated with. They came out ahead of the story and told the public that both Nick and Graham owned stock in this company and that they had no idea that the company was using child labor.
I thought they did a good job. I worried that getting rid of the stock quickly would look fishy. Letting the public know prevented a scandal.
They made the right choice to dump the stock and make it public. Being associated in any way with the deaths of child workers is not a good look for someone in politics and covering it up would be a huge mistake - secrets always come out.
