I believed she was lying. I was waiting for the shoe to fall.
I was sure it was more, and it was my first clue that Willie wasn't at all what everyone thought he was.
I was sure she was lying.
She was obviously lying. No one has that kind of reaction to a simple friend. @Anita - me too. It was the first sign that Willie was not such a great guy after all.
I wanted to believe her: perhaps she felt more toward him than vice versa. As the story progressed, I just gave up on faithful sports idols.
