I started this book during the night actually as I woke up and couldn't go back to sleep. Started out interesting is all I can say and I got caught up in the writing so quick that I caught myself reading three or four chapters! lol

Oh nice! I love how authors fit things in from their hometown and background into their stories.
I am thinking though that (view spoiler)
I am 38% into the story and really enjoying it! :)
I know you are a big Jeff Strand fan and this book kind of reminds me of his books. Was Strand an inspiration for this story? With the book being your first novel - the horror comedy of the story runs along the same lines as Strand.
Actually if I didn't know you and your writing style I would say that this book reads like a Strand novel. I have been giggling through some of the story as it is funny. I love the comedy horror. :)

Spiders don't scare me. In fact, I like them. I'm not saying I'd like to walk around with a camel spider on my back or play catch the funnel web spider with my toes - or have anything ever living in my ear - but I go out of my way not to harm them or destroy their webs, so long as they are outside the house. Sharks - they scare me. I'd take 1000 spiders over 1 shark.
As for Jeff Strand... hmmm? I don't think he was an inspiration. You are right, I am a huge Strand fan - and I have been fortunate enough to be at cons with him now more than a few times and he's always seemed like a good person as well - and I love horror comedy, but I don't think I had read anything by him yet when I was writing this. Maybe Dweller, which was my first Strand read and still one of my favorite books, but not a comedy.
I grew up with 80s campy horror. And those that were most fun for me were Night of the Creeps, Killer Clowns from Outer Space, and all the cheesy creature features that made me laugh instead of shiver. One of my favorite movies that came later was Slither, and I was hoping it would herald in a new error of horror comedy. Tucker and Dale Versus Evil is another great one. But they are few and far between, mostly languishing in B-movie bad effects, bad writing, and witless humor (not that What Hides Within doesn't have its share of lowbrow humor!).
What I am hoping is this - Strand will start getting movie deals left and right and usher in a new horror comedy error in film and books. Even if I am not part of it, I would still revel in it as a reader and viewer.
That reminds me - I need to start Wolf Hunt 2, lol!
Unexpected laughing while reading horror can be such a wild but sometimes awesome release, big fan personally!
I am close to being done with this book. I love the crazy wild ride that Clive went through! I have been giggling some through this story. :)
I finished the book but haven't done my review yet. Still gathering thoughts about the book. I gave it four stars. I really liked the story and it was quite a unique storyline. :)
I did my review as I was able to "spin a web" of thoughts. lol :)

Synopsis of story:
Inside all of us, there is darkness. Inside Clive, it's tangible, and it's aching to get out.
What Hides Within tells the story of a man held captive by an unknown evil. Clive Menard is a spineless slacker leading an ordinary existence. But when Chester enters his life, it becomes far from ordinary.
