Maggie inherited a gift from her time-crossing parents that allows her to live three separate lives in 1861, 1941, and 2001. Each night she goes to sleep in one time period and wakes up in another. Until, that is, she turns twenty-one, when she will have to forfeit two of those lives--and everyone she knows in them--forever.

In 1861, Maggie is the daughter of an influential senator at the outbreak of the Civil War, navigating a capital full of Southern spies and wounded soldiers. In 1941, she is a Navy nurse, grappling with her knowledge of the future when she's asked to join a hospital ship being sent to Pearl Harbor. And in 2001, she's a brilliant young medical student, fulfilling her dream of becoming a surgeon, yet unable to use her modern skills in her other paths.

While Maggie has sworn off romance until she makes her final choice, an intriguing man tugs at her heart in each era. The mysterious British gentleman. The prickly, demanding doctor. The charming young congressman. She's drawn to each man in different ways, only complicating the impossible decision she must make, which looms ever closer.

My thoughts:

(view spoiler)[I enjoyed all three time periods. I loved that in this book, the main character could choose her own path vs the first book where her mother forced it on her.

I must say, I was expecting something to happen in 2001, but thought she will be a witness, vs being one of those killed.

I wasn't expecting her to tell her father and love interest about the time travel and that they accepted it so easily.

I liked the doctor in 1941 and was sad that her heart pulled her more to Grey but also loved that love story, so I was conflicted just as the character. (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[I think it was interesting to find out how the different placement of the birthmarks tells you what the person's 'path options will be . . . like over the heart, you will live 21 years in 2 paths, one in the future, and one with your marked parent(s), and the back of the neck means 25 years in the past and then with your marked parent(s). I wonder how the author came up with that idea. It's kinda cool thinking about her trying to figure out how the different paths worked and the 'rules' of being marked.

I agree with you about liking that Maggie was able to choose her path more than Libby was (with the exception of 2001 being cut short). I kept going back and forth trying to figure out which path I thought she should take, but ultimately ended up agreeing with her choice of 1861 and Gray. Zecharaiah was a good person, but I think he was not quite ready to love someone in an unconditional way . . . it felt almost like he expected Maggie to somehow save him. Whereas Gray was totally able to let her go if that's what she needed.
I wonder if both Papa Wakefield and Gray, being men of faith, were somehow worked upon by the Spirit to believe what Maggie was telling them about her paths. Obviously, they trusted her to tell the truth, no matter how far fetched it must have seemed to them. (hide spoiler)]

I finished this one this weekend and enjoyed it. Oh I was torn how she was going to go, but I figured out which way her heart was pulling. I am excited to read book 3 next.

I've had to resort to spacing the books out, because I don't want to finish book 3 and then have a ZILLION (not really but lol!) years to wait before the final book releases in November.

I agree, Charlene! I wasn't really sure what to expect of a time travel Christian series, but the author has done very well with it, and I'm looking forward to what happens next!
