children's book. series. the protagonists are two kids. the antagonist is a scientist of some sort who does experiments with beetles and other bugs. she somehow controls the beatles and uses them for malicious purposes. one of the kids has a good/not controlled sentient beetle. i think the other kid has a personal relationship with the evil scientist. the two kids are somewhat protected by two adults. possibly parents of one of the kids, the kids are not siblings. the adults may be other scientists. in one chapter the adults ask the kids to stay in some safe house/apartment while they go fight the antagonist. they take a briefcase or box or something with them. although, the kids do not listen and somehow save the day. at the end of the series the evil lady has this dress that is made of beetles. i know the evil lady worked/lived in this cold, gray, metallic building with fluorescent lights. at some point in the series the kids and the adults (?) troop through some tropical forest to find the antagonist. one of the covers was green, covered in beetles, and the title was silver/metallic. i probably read this sometime from 2016-2019.

It looks like they go trooping through the rainforest in the final book.
