Megan (nightrunner) Okay, so what kindd of rps do you usually enjoy. Singles? Doubles? Normal or fictional?

message 2: by Joseph (new)

Joseph Ballenger I personally like Singles and along the lines of fictional. You?

message 3: by Megan (new)

Megan (nightrunner) That's fine with me, any fictional aspect you're just dying to rp?

message 4: by Joseph (new)

Joseph Ballenger Hmmmm. I like a good Hero vs Villain story. Do you mind it being superhero-esque?

message 5: by Megan (new)

Megan (nightrunner) I don't mind at all. So, which would you like to be, hero or villain? Also, boy or girl? (I have a feeling on both, but I'll check just to be sure.)

message 6: by Joseph (new)

Joseph Ballenger I never took the role of villain before, so I'll give that a shot. And I'll play a guy. Any ideas pop in your head about the set-up? I'd like to see what you may think.

message 7: by Megan (new)

Megan (nightrunner) Hmm... Well, I don't have great ideas on the subject, but if you do, my personal favorite superheroes are Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, Superman, and Wonder Woman. I also like the idea of the characters knowing each other in their everyday life, but not realizing that they fight each other each night.

message 8: by Joseph (new)

Joseph Ballenger Oh ok. Let me think up a few scenarios right quick and let me know what you think of what I post.

message 9: by Joseph (new)

Joseph Ballenger But I do like how they know each other in everyday life. I will definitely like to go in that direction.

message 10: by Joseph (new)

Joseph Ballenger A) In a fantasy world, two teens sneak around a castle in search for a secret potion. They find it, but are caught by guards in the act. Scared, they drop the potion (gains powers unknowingly). The hero runs away while the villain is captured. The hero regrets his decision of leaving the friend behind while the villain plots his revenge against his so-called friend.

message 11: by Joseph (new)

Joseph Ballenger B) In our world, all superheroes are called to save another dimension. What's left are a few villains left in prison. One villain thinks about turning good (hero). The other wants to take over what's left of the unguarded world (villain).

message 12: by Megan (new)

Megan (nightrunner) I really like the first one, but maybe they were younger than teens? Like, they were kids who were absolutely best friends and the one got caught did so willingly to save the other, and then the prison or tortures turns them evil, while the other one keeps trying to protect people to make up for the fact that they were saved when they were young.

message 13: by Joseph (new)

Joseph Ballenger C) In the future world, flying cars and all, we are just 20 years away from the sun destroying the earth. Only a handful knows about this 20 year span. There is mention of a parallel world that would available to inhabit. The hero wants to find the portal to save all mankind. The villain wants to find it and enslave all humanity and wants only the strongest to carry over there.

message 14: by Joseph (new)

Joseph Ballenger If you like the first one, mind if we fast forward a bit?
I'd say it was the day the villain finally escaped. He knows the castle inside and out.

message 15: by Megan (new)

Megan (nightrunner) Yeah, that would be fine, you want to do character sheets though, and do you mind if my character is a girl?

message 16: by Joseph (new)

Joseph Ballenger We can do character sheets and I don't mind your character being a girl. But my character sheets are usually brief so bear with me. I'll have to make this one from scratch.

message 17: by Megan (new)

Megan (nightrunner) How old do you want the characters?

message 18: by Joseph (new)

Joseph Ballenger Early 20's

message 19: by Megan (last edited Apr 04, 2015 03:07PM) (new)

Megan (nightrunner) Name: Genevieve Ricardo
Hero name: The Night Star
Age: 22
Gender: Female
Appearance:

Personality: Genevieve is a generous person. She devotes her time and energy to helping others in any way she can. She is fierce and loyal. She doesn't back down from a fight, even when the odds are completely against her. She doesn't only fight physical battles though, she also fights to make society better for women and more inclusive to all people. She has a keen sense of right and wrong and is not afraid to be heard.

History: Genevieve was born to one of the high lords of the kingdom. She was born into just short of a royal title, fifth in line to the throne of the country. Her father's death changed that though. She was only two when he died in a fire on their estate. Genevieve and her mother lost everything in their possession at the time, and as a lady, Genevieve's mother was taken in to live in the castle. That was where Genevieve was raised, and as many would say, it took a village. Genevieve was always being schooled in etiquette and how to behave like a lady, and then promptly leaving the room and forgetting everything she ever learned. She would play with the boys of the castle and ruin countless dresses. She taught herself how to ride horses, and not sidesaddle like she was supposed to. She was outspoken, an never let anyone tell her that she couldn't do the things the boys could do. She was a revolutionary thinker. People said it stemmed from not having a father around, but it just came from inside her.
The most profound effect on her life came when she was young. One of her best friends and partners in crime talked about a potion that could grant wishes. Genevieve begged to go searching with him. There was only one wish she wanted, and that was to meet her father, if only briefly. When the guards found them, she wanted to stick up for her friend, to pull the royal status card, even though both children knew it wouldn't work. He made her run, they both knew the castle well enough to get away, but she was quicker, and had more to lose. She never saw her friend again, and could only imagine the horrors he endured. Genevieve started dedicating her life to helping people after that in the hopes to make up for the terrible choice she had made in letting her best friend face the guards alone.

superpowers: Telekinetic, Super Human Reflexes, and slight hovering abilities.

Joseph Ballenger Name: Bastion Vanguard
Villain Name: Fury

Appearance:

Age: 22

Personality: Uncaring to all yet hides behind a fake smile, Bastion is a witty yet jaded soul. Because of his many years of torture, his heart is cold to showing remorse to anyone. He does hope for a better future but only wants the world to experience the pain he’s endured for so long. However, he loves a good joke and would still try to get anyone who would care to listen something to smile about.

Backstory:
In his early years in the Arthurian kingdom, he had many friends. That’s mostly because of his father, the head guard, bringing him to play with the young royals on days he was on duty at the castle. He had a happy childhood up until his pre-teen years. The royals would peer pressure him into stealing a morsel here or a shekel of silver there. Overtime, he received a high from the thievery and did it without question. Becoming quite good at covering his tracks. However, little did he know a watchful kept view of him. Eyes that were not too kind.

One day, while his father was sent overseas on mission, he and his best childhood friend heard of a potion within the castle. A potion to grant any wish. When the duo found the bottle, Bastion was about to store it in his pocket when several guards stormed in. Scared to no end, he dropped the bottle and was apprehended. He forced his friend to run, which at least allowed one of them freedom. But due to severity of the crime, he was sentenced to 10 years in prison.

For years, he was tortured and beaten with no one to turn to. His father never returned to visit even though he heard rumors that he came back to the kingdom. That alone sent him spiraling into anger, regret, and bitterness.

Powers:
Super Strength, Teleportation, and Fire manipulation

Megan (nightrunner) So, I have to go to bed for the night. I have to get up early. Do you want to do a starting post? I can go however detailed you want. I can also add a backstory for Gen tomorrow.

message 22: by Joseph (last edited Apr 03, 2015 10:31PM) (new)

Joseph Ballenger Alright. I'd like to do it with just two paragraphs at a time. Three at most. A backstory for Gen would be pretty nice too.

I'll make the first post but won't be back on 'til 5pm or so Central Time tomorrow. Hope you have a blessed night!

message 23: by Joseph (last edited Apr 03, 2015 11:06PM) (new)

Joseph Ballenger (first post for the RP)

Bastion hands shook as he gripped tightly to the rope. Thirty feet above ground and here he was, hoping down the side of the tower. His feet pressed hard against the stone wall before attempting the next jump. Gritting his teeth, the gash on his back open up. But just a scratch. This was a pain he was acquainted with all too well.

Loud voices were just above. They may have just noticed the empty cell. Or possibly the dead guard in his place in the cell. Should serve for a nice parting gift.

message 24: by Megan (new)

Megan (nightrunner) Genevieve was up on the roof of the bakery, watching the mulling around in the market, a bow in her hands, a sheath of arrows across her back. The semi darkness was her only real cover, and she knew she had to be back at the castle soon, but a thief had been running rampant in the market at just after sun down. She was going to catch him. She had seen him tomorrow, but one of the bakers had started talking to her and the kid had slipped through her fingers. The rascal had caught onto her though, and wasn't out tonight. The guards were also blatantly ignoring the string of robberies because it was women reporting them. Men didn't care enough.

message 25: by Joseph (new)

Joseph Ballenger Bastion landed on the ground and looked up. Below the dusk lit sky, several heads peered from the tip of the tower. That was cue to hide before he was recognized. He placed his red hood over his face as he ran towards the town.

His mother's voice echoed in his head. What would she say if she saw him? Would she be able to recognize his scarred body? Would she welcome him with open arms?

message 26: by Megan (new)

Megan (nightrunner) Genevieve had given up for the night. She knew that something had happened, the town had quickly vacated, and that meant that nothing was really going to happen, so she headed back up toward the castle, looking at the clock tower and setting off at a run, knowing they were about to lock the castle gates. She was listening for the sound as she ran, keeping her head down at she assumed the town was all asleep, never expecting to run headlong into someone, hard enough to knock her back a couple feet. It was probably her fault. Her black cloak and dark hair made her nearly invisible against the darkness. She picked herself up, testing out a tender ankle and looking at the boy she had run into. "Are you okay? I wasn't watching where I was going, I'm sorry. Oh god, you're bleeding!" she exclaimed as she tried to help him up, not seeing his face clearly enough to recognize her old friend.

message 27: by Joseph (new)

Joseph Ballenger Bastion growled as he wiped the blood from his head. It wasn't too bad. Just needed to find a place to ransack in town for a cloth bandage. But time was running very thin. He was well away from the castle but this girl. She's only making matters worse by stopping him. "I'm in a hurry. You should worry about yourself."

message 28: by Megan (new)

Megan (nightrunner) Gen was taken aback by the man's hostilities. "Wait, I can help you, just hold on for a second," she tried to keep the guy from running off again. She felt bad, he was hurt. Then she heard the hooves pounding the dirt. Only guards took their horses out this late, and they were in an apparent hurry. She looked back at the boy, pushing the hood away from his face and stumbling back a step. "Oh my god. They're after you," she knew his face, he was too familiar to her, but she couldn't place it. It had been over ten years since she had seen the boy, and they had both changed, both matured. His face used to be softer, more joyful. Now he looked gaunt and ragged. "Bastion..." she breathed as they hoof beats crested the hill behind them.

message 29: by Joseph (new)

Joseph Ballenger Bastion's eyes widened. Surely, she must be someone he knew. It's been years since he's seen a gentle woman's face. Was she someone from his childhood perhaps? He couldn't place his finger on it. But the sound of galloping horses were getting louder. He couldn't sit around and get captured. "Maiden, you must have me mistaken. But you'll live longer if you leave me be!" He began running towards the town once more.

message 30: by Megan (new)

Megan (nightrunner) Gen watched him go, stunned into stillness by the fact that her old friend the one who had saved her so long ago was still alive, and was on the run from the guards. One of the guards pulled up along side her, looking down at her. "My Lady, have you seen a prisoner run through here?" one of them asked her. She nodded still dazed. She pushed her hood back away from her face and one of the men drew a quick breath, "Lady Genevieve, you shouldn't be out this late."

"The prisoner, he ran into me, but I hit my head, I don't know where he went," she lied, playing on her dazed state, one of the guards helped her onto his horse, turning to return her to the castle as she looked back up the path at the receding pinprick of red on the trail.

message 31: by Joseph (last edited Apr 04, 2015 06:12PM) (new)

Joseph Ballenger The town came in view. It was as bright as he remembered yet very quiet. The people moved about in their cordial fashion. Surely, word has yet to travel about his escape. But it will soon and he needed to hide. He slowly walked to the town with his face hidden within his hood.

He noticed two guards outside a home a few feet away. He backed in an alley and observed. There shouldn't be any guards out this time of night. What's changed in these past 10 years?

message 32: by Megan (new)

Megan (nightrunner) Gen was returned to the castle and taken to a doctor to be checked out. Her mind just kept spinning though. Bastion had been in the tower all this time? She had been so close to him. She had been to the tower before, but always got caught by the guards before she got past the first few cells. She could have helped him if she had known. She could unlock door and get him out, but she had thought he had been taken away after his father had come back the month after he had been caught. Ever since he had been in there, the place had gone to the dogs. The king had died, the eldest prince taken over. The man was a tyrant, he ran a kingdom of fear, and had turned his guards into criminals. It was what Gen fought so hard against, to keep the people safe and the guards from committing atrocities against the people. It had also fostered criminals among the people. They knew they could get away with things if they were in good with the young king. The kingdom was falling apart.

message 33: by Joseph (last edited Apr 05, 2015 05:46PM) (new)

Joseph Ballenger Bastion stepped slowly out the alley. This was his home. It needed not to be guarded or blocked off. Is this his father's doing? No matter. They didn't belong there.

He vanished from his spot and appeared behind both guards. He engulfed his hands in flames before piercing them in their backs. They screamed in pain, collapsing to the ground. They'll bleed to death eventually. He turned to open the door. Hoping his mom would be waiting on the other side.

message 34: by Megan (new)

Megan (nightrunner) Gen couldn't sleep. She had to go find him, find Bastion and find out what had happened, keep him from doing something he would regret. Scaling the castle walls was difficult when the gate wasn't open. She fell off her rope on the way down, only her focusing to hover off the ground saving her from a painful fall. She moved out to the grove where she kept her horse, River, jumping on and riding for the town. She ditched the horse when she got close enough. She glanced around as she reached the center of town, thinking nothing seemed amiss, until she saw the two bodies in the street. She stopped, they were still alive. She stripped them off their shirts, using them for bandages and dropping the men on the door of the town surgeon, knocking hard and then running back to the house. "Bastion!" she called out as she entered the house, knowing that those injuries were his fault. He must have developed...abilities like she had when they dropped the potion. "Bastion! I know you're here!"

message 35: by Joseph (new)

Joseph Ballenger The house was empty. No lamps were lit. No chatter or commotion. Nothing! What were they guarding? A voice then sounded behind him. There was the girl from before. He pulled his hood closer to his face and scowled. "What business do you have with me? I thought you wanted to live."

message 36: by Megan (new)

Megan (nightrunner) "God, Bastion, what happened to you? You could have killed those men! From what I hear it wouldn't be your first murder! You need help!" Gen exclaimed, her eyes pleading with him to remember her or remember something. She still clutched her bow tightly, an arrow knocked, ready to shoot in an instant if the need arose. She was on edge, glancing around the room. This part of the room seemed run down, most of the furnishings in disrepair, but two doors connected to the room, a trap door in the floor just behind Bastion, and a slightly ajar door to Genevieve's left. Gen was confused, had the guards followed him there, or had they simply been roaming the streets.

message 37: by Joseph (new)

Joseph Ballenger Her name slipped from her lips more times than he liked. And from her face, horror and pity seemed to do a dance. And her hands, poised for attack. It's only natural considering how irritated he was. He formed a fireball on his right hand and lifted it towards his face. Didn't want to take any chances. "How do you know me?"

message 38: by Megan (new)

Megan (nightrunner) Gen looked at him sadly, knocking her hood back and letting him see her full on in the light. "You don't recognize me at all do you?" she asked him, not phased by the fireball in his hands. He had to recognize her face, she hadn't changed that much. Her heart shaped face still had the same youthfulness, despite her age. Her hair was bound back, but it was still the same dark raven tresses that had flown behind her during all their escapades as children. She watched him, trying to glimpse a bit of recognition, but his eyes were shielded from her, like he had locked his emotions away.

message 39: by Joseph (new)

Joseph Ballenger (I have to admit, I really like your writing style. It definitely inspires me to step up my game lol)

Bastion took a step back. He glanced at her delicate face. Her eyes diving into his own. There was a resemblance of a young child he couldn't quite understand. A child that always showed she cared. This wasn't her, was it?

"I recognize." He sighed. "I recognize something about you. I'm sorry I can't say anymore than that." He clasped both hands together and extinguished the fireball. "As for the killing, you should know what I've done pales in comparison to the hundreds the royal guards murdered. I'm lucky to be standing."

message 40: by Megan (new)

Megan (nightrunner) (Thanks, I try to do what I can. I figure the more I work to improve, the better I will end up.))

She saw something flash across his features and knew that in some why he knew her, but it wasn't enough. "You never were good with names. You used to call me Raven when you forgot my name because of my hair," she admitted, a soft smile touching her features. At mention of the guards, she glanced over her shoulder, to make sure they were still alone. "Some of them are forced to. The prince took over and sent this place straight to hell. He would threaten guards families if they refused him. Other were blood thirsty. Under past kings they were held at bay by precedent, like dogs tied to the back stairs. Once they were set free they became monsters." Gen shook herself out of the thought, ignoring the things she had seen that had left scars on her mind. "Let me help you, at least with your injuries. We can find you a place to hide, you don't have to hurt anyone, please," she pleaded with him, her eyes sincere as she put the arrow away, wrapping the bow around her body so it hung across her body. "Please, Bastion."

message 41: by Joseph (last edited Apr 06, 2015 06:25PM) (new)

Joseph Ballenger Bastion scoffed. "Raven? I guess that will do as a name for you." He turned around and pulled open the trap door and dug with his hands at the dirt. Seconds later, his hands hit against a rough smooth surface. Guess the guards didn't find out about this little treasure. He pulled out the small box and stood with his back towards from Raven. "If you know so much, tell me, where's the head of the royal guards? I have a feeling you know of his whereabouts?"

message 42: by Megan (new)

Megan (nightrunner) Gen watched him as he pulled the trap door, straining herself to try and see what he was holding. His body was blocking it. It was infuriating, but it told her a few things, it was small enough to be hidden by his body. It was important to him somehow, and it had been under the trapdoor for over ten years, and was still assumed useful to him. When he asked about the guards, Gen bit her lip. He was looking for his father. "At the moment he's at the east border of the country. There was a revolt that the king wanted a special associate of his to be the one to make sure things got sorted out. From what I've heard, it's been bloody. A wagon of children was brought into town yesterday, orphans, well, they weren't, but they are now. Bitterness tinted her words. The orphanage was getting fuller each day, and yet the king wouldn't increase the food supply or rooms for the children, leaving them cramped and starving. Gen routinely stole food from the castle and took it to the nuns who ran the orphanage so that they kids would survive.

message 43: by Joseph (last edited Apr 06, 2015 06:50PM) (new)

Joseph Ballenger Bastion growled. So, the rumors were true. He's still alive and didn't have the decency to see him. Save him from the torture he's endured since he was 12. What went through his mind to abandon his only son?! He could only imagine what his mother must have felt.

He looked to the dull fireplace to his right. The ashes settled with a faint smell of smoke. He remembered many a night by the fire. Sitting in his mother's lap while listening to his father's amazing stories of valor and adventure. But what good is adventure if love for family was never a part of it? "I imagine the revolt must have been going on for years if he decided to leave me to rot." He turned towards Raven with the box in clear view. "This right here is what I will use to kill him."

message 44: by Megan (new)

Megan (nightrunner) ((So, I have an idea, maybe not for right now, but for later in the rp, what if when Gen ends up killing his father to try and save her friend? Like he and Bas are fighting, and she can see Bas is losing, so she makes what appears to be the better decision.))

Gen felt his rage, it was almost palpable in the air. She swallowed uneasily, not sure what to say to the fact that his father had abandoned him, knowing the knowledge that the revolt had only been an issue for a little over a year, and guards had only been deployed last month. She wouldn't look in the box though. The box snapped shut as it turned toward her, knocking itself to the ground as though struck hard from above by an unseen force. "No, you can't kill him. Bas, you are better than that. If you even try to do this you are stooping to his level. You have a chance, you don't have to be the monster he is." She moved forward slightly, as though to put a hand on his arm, but then rethought it, not sure how he would react to being touched with care when the scars on his body showed years of hatred and pain. "Anyway, he not here, let me help you with your injuries, and then we can figure out where to go from there, okay?"

message 45: by Joseph (last edited Apr 07, 2015 10:31PM) (new)

Joseph Ballenger ((I actually want it to turn out that the father isn't actually evil but was blackmailed. I still want Bastion to fight with him though. And if the father still dies in the way you stated that would be so heart-wrenching >_< but I like it! The mother is alive somewhere though.))

The box slammed to the ground. What caused it? No matter really. The bottle inside was durable enough to absorb the impact. In any case, she seemed more comfortable to even call him Bas. Another name he haven't been called in some time. And the closer she got, the stronger her sweet scent invaded his space.

He backed away a bit as he looked at his own scars and injuries. At this point, they didn't hurt much but her offer to take care of them was tempting. However, first things first. "My father kills as a profession. I doubt killing him would make me any worse of a person." He walked past her towards the front door. "Second, don't call me Bas unless you plan on telling me who you really are, and why you care so much."

message 46: by Megan (new)

Megan (nightrunner) She just watched him, never having seen him so angry before. He had never been an angry kid. She couldn't just let him walk away. "Wait, don't leave!" she called, turning around to see him in the door. "I know a place you can stay, guards don't go there, there is food and a bed. It might be a bit dusty but it's safe. We can talk there. Maybe then I can catch you up on what happened out here since you saw me last." She was working on a prayer, hoping that he would take the bait and agree. She wasn't lying, she did know a place he could safely stay, it was just ten feet away from the ashes of a burned down building. Now, the place was not a burned down building, it was perfectly intact. "Think about it, food and shelter, safety, no one out to get you. You don't have to stay forever, but you can at least crash there for the night."

message 47: by Joseph (last edited Apr 09, 2015 07:52PM) (new)

Joseph Ballenger He stopped. It would be wise to lay low. Some where out of the guards' reach and preferably away from the town. But what if this was all a trap? She did head in the direction of the castle before they parted ways. Did she receive notion to capture him? He shook his head. "The only way I will follow you is if you can prove you're worth trusting. I assume you may have connections with the higher ups and I'd hate to be tricked into going back into their hands."

He pointed to her bow, arrows and quiver. "You leave your bow and arrows here for a night and..." He ignited his other hand in flames. "if you as much tackle me, I'll kill you. I won't follow you any other way."

message 48: by Joseph (new)

Joseph Ballenger (Hey, did you still want to continue?)

message 49: by Megan (new)

Megan (nightrunner) (yeah, I've just been kind of busy. I lost track of my notifications and got caught up in a few things)

Gen knew he wouldn't trust her blindly. It wasn't in his nature, and after being stuck in a hellhole for so long, he wasn't taking offers of safety lightly. The last thing Gen wanted to do though was put down her bow and arrow. Her body stiffened as he requested it, the fire in his hands reflection in her eyes as she slowly pulled the bow from her body, setting it gently down on the floor. She had crafted it herself, taking immense amounts of time to carve every detail, sand the wood to perfection. It was something she was proud of, and she prayed he wouldn't harm it. She bit her lip, looking at it. "I'll leave my arrows, every single one of them, but I will not risk my bow being found or stolen, it's one of a kind, priceless." She bartered, tossing each of her arrows away from her, then taking the dagger from her boot and sliding it across the room to his feet. "Those are all the weapons I have. If you want to hold the bow until we get there, fine, but I will not leave it in the middle of an abandoned building."

message 50: by Joseph (last edited Apr 11, 2015 03:43PM) (new)

Joseph Ballenger Bastion let out a brief huff. In her eyes was the reflection of his flames. How different they looked from such a view. Almost as if her reflection soothed the unruly look of the furious fire. He then shook his head. Compromise was better than not complying at all. So, he extinguished the flame from his hand, grabbed the bow with his other hand and positioned himself from in front of her to the side. "Very well. Grab my box quickly and lead the way."
