Overall, I really liked this one. It wasn't wholly predictable but I did think the ending was rushed. Also, despite the reviews I've seen, including yours Dr B, I actually thought (view spoiler)[ it wasn't that inconceivable. We know the black web is full of trafficking, red rooms, etc. It's not inconceivable to me that rich people who pay to see this horribleness. (hide spoiler)]

I just finished - wow! That was some of the most intense reading I have done in a while! (view spoiler)[I loved how the fact that we don't know how Maria's time in the basement went helped to keep the secret that Nina's dad did not design the house to be a murder game. What a twisted premise! And of course the true higher-ups were free to keep doing what they are doing. I was glad that Oksana let Nina be because I am sure that she could have had her hunted down and killed if she really wanted to. I actually could have done without the reunion bit - I would have been fine leaving them with the police coming in their helicopter (though I would have wanted to know if Joe was still breathing) and then had the epilogue. But this has been one of the most fun thrillers i have read in a while (hide spoiler)]

I'm starting Ch 14 and (view spoiler)[ things are starting to get really weird. The whole Maria story is bizarre so far! I'm wondering where she is now that Nina is in the house! I'm assuming the tmelines are pretty close to one another. (hide spoiler)]

Just finished ch 21 and WTH is going on, lol!! (view spoiler)[ Maria just escaped the crazy rooms, why is she so cut up?! Now she's in the bathroom with the mirror and there are two guys on the other side of the door. I agree that it's a little crazy that she had the strength to pull herself up through the vent but I'm going to go with her fear propelling her up there! I am thinking these two men are the father & son duo from the excavating company so now I'm feeling even more worried for Nina too! (hide spoiler)]

The tension is building really nicely! If I had all day to read, I would!

I agree with all the comments in the spoilers for the of ch 29. However, (view spoiler)[ I am grappling with some disbelief here. Maria seems to be so smart and has been able to kill 3 men, all of whom are bigger and stronger than her. I'm all about strong women but I feel like these things she knows about survival and having killed these 3 men needs me to suspend some disbelief. I am happy to do so but it's definitely not smooth for me there.

Also, having gone back to her apt and took a bubble bath!! I would be in and out so fast you would never know I was back there. She HAD to know they were going to be sending someone out to get her. She's so smart in other ways but didn't see that coming?! Opened the door for a package!? That frustrated me for being so dumb.

The whole thing with the real-life escape room concept is good though. Awful, uncomfortable but definitely good. I am very curious about who is doing this, why her father started this thing and why it is continuing on after his death. Who was her father really?? This is the part I'm really enjoying. I agree with all of this. Maria doesn't seem (view spoiler)[ strong enough to have killed those men given what she'd already been through. I chalked it up to adrenaline but it's definitely a rationalization. The bubble bath was a WILD idea lol.

The escape room is a scary but cool concept for sure.

I forgot to post my review as well. I gave it ⭐⭐⭐ but felt it was a good thriller, just not quite for me. This in no way means I didn't enjoy it and that I would never read another by the author. I have Mr. Nobody sitting on my shelf at home, hopefully this summer.

I'm just starting this one and decided to jump to an audio book. It's narrated by the author! She's really good too! I'm loving it so far!
