Roe (roelynn) | 278 comments Thanks for the welcome guys!

A little about me, I live in southern Iowa on an acerage with my husband and 15 yr old daughter. We have 6 dogs, 3 cats, 5 brand new kittens (I'm a grandma!!! ), a rabbit, a horse and ironically enough a pear tree though it usually has a woodpecker in it not a partridge.

I commute 2hrs each day for work where I'm an Operations Manager at a Credit Union and I also take photos for the local newspaper so I always have an audiobook in my ears. At home I have a pretty large library filled with my favorite books so for new ones I go old fashion and use my library card to get physical books and only but the ones I love.

What was your last 5 🌟 book? The Many Lives of Mama Love. TBH i didnt read the back so I was not prepared for this story line at all! It worked out though because I loved it!

What book are you excited to read from your TBR shelf?
I actually do the NBRC Cleaning out the TBR Closet challenge so i pick 50 books every yr to read. I have only read 11 so I have a long way to go. lol

Have you read/watched the Hunger Games? Did you enjoy it?
Watched many times read once so excited to reread this series especially as I read Songbirds recently!

What is your favorite food? (Since we are the grain district!)
TACOS!

What is your favorite season? ☀️❄️🌸🍁
Fall

Shelf

Roe (roelynn) | 278 comments @christina - hey girl hey! have you been surviving all the tornados unscathed?

@Dawn - they are only 3 weeks old so they are still really small and squeaky but my guess is in the next few weeks they will be hard to contain! lol

The Mods said i can add every book that I’ve read since the challenge started where it fits which is about 21 books so thats my plan for the day! If my boss asks though I am absolutely working on those awesome spreadsheets for the board report lol ! 🤫

Melissa | 3779 comments Hahaha what books?! Spreadsheets all day, of course!! :D
Also, I LOVE tacos!

Looks like the polls have closed for the July BOM. The Familiar is a definite winner. The other two are tied so we might be reading both. We'll have to wait until the Threads/Monthly Letter comes out to let us know for sure.

The Familiar by Leigh Bardugo - The Familiar

The Book That Wouldn’t Burn (The Library Trilogy, #1) by Mark Lawrence - The Book That Wouldn’t Burn

The Women by Kristin Hannah - The Women

message 318: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 3779 comments Thanks Roe! I know it's a lot to add that many at one time. As long as they are added before the end of Round 1 we'll be able to use them so take your time

Roe (roelynn) | 278 comments If theres a argument in a bar where someone throws a drink at someone else would that be a battle or a weapon?

message 321: by Melissa (new)

You could use a drink as a weapon in that setting!

Incoming Supply Drop!

For your final Supply Drop of Round 1, we have given you:
Skippy Dies

Works for all resources:
Weapons: Knives still jutting from their flanks
Shelter: young boarding school students shelter from the bullies and adolescent angst, escaping into in fantastical mix of celtic mythology with theoretical physics
Food: Doughnuts feature as a potential choking hazard
Defense: MCs must defend themselves from local dealers

Happy Hunger Book Games!
May the odd be ever in your favor!

We had some damage to our city but way minor compared to east of us. I think most of the damage was about half way between you and I. I'm in Council Bluffs so there was a lot of damage West of omaha and quite a bit of damage north of us but absolutely nothing compared to Greenfield which is not that far from you considering that tornado damaged over 40 miles of Iowa. How about you? All ok?

We have only lost some branches so far this yr which im grateful for bc they just fixed out gutters from the falls storm damage. I work in Des Moinse and there are several areas that had damages to houses but again its mostly just trees! Poor Greenfield though! We got lucky because its only like 30 mins or so from me!

message 331: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 3779 comments Stay safe you guys. I've seen pictures on the news and it is devastating what is happening. I couldn't even imagine how to come back from something like that.

message 332: by Roe (last edited Jun 07, 2024 10:33PM) (new)

Roe (roelynn) | 278 comments We had one home destroyed completely here with the first tornado of the season which is terrible of course but the whole town! i just cant fathom that! We are pretty far outside of town so we have stood out on the deck and watched it roll by in the distance a few times.

message 333: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 3779 comments I can't either! How do you walk down your street and see every house just demolished. It would be absolutely heartbreaking.

That must have been wild to see!

message 334: by Trinia (new)

Trinia | 2503 comments We get quite a few tornadoes too here in Texas and the past few weeks have been pretty hairy! Luckily We got a shelter after a bunch tore through just North of us and relocated all of the cars in a dealership 😱 miles down the highway 😳

Melissa | 3779 comments Stay safe too! It's so scary! I don't know if I could live in an area that gets tornados all the time and bad ones too.

I'm in PA and we had a tornado come through my area like a mile or 2 from my house a year or so ago and I've never been so scared. We never used to get tornados like that but lately there have been more in the area. Literally had an earthquake a couple months ago!

Trinia | 2503 comments I’ve been wondering about that horn task.
Can it be either a horn like 🦄 or a horn like 🎺 ???

message 338: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 3779 comments To everyone who has claimed a spot

With Roe's books and some others we have a few spots that are covered by already read books. I don't want to move things since they have been claimed but if you would like to put something on hold or claim another spot please let me know and I'll move things around.

Christina has read a book that will cover C14 Author initials in HERACLES
@JL - you've marked Ballad as Read on the SS but it's still Currently Reading in Goodreads.

Christina and Nick have books that will cover C19 word in title is hiding a different smaller word

Roe has a book that will cover C42 Author's name has a diacritic

This is only if you want to switch out your books. Please keep reading if you choose to! :D

maria helena (mariahel) | 1924 comments We can use Roe's book for author name with diacritic for C45 instead of mine. I had two alternatives for that one but haven't started reading either of them yet.

message 342: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 3779 comments Sounds good MH. Does it matter which one you want me to switch it out for?

I chaperoned my daughter's DC trip back in March. We also went to Gettysberg and PA and for me I'll take tornados in Iowa over the allergies in PA all day! You guys are the real heros! We were dying! 1/2 of us came home sick as dogs with tissues up our noses. It was a sight to see for sure lol

Stacey (boydsmom) | 1377 comments I just realized that Slaying the Vampire Conqueror by Carissa Broadbent has horns on the cover (who knew vampires could have horns :) ) . I will add that as a comment and you all can put in for whichever task we need at the end.

Also, feel free to move my books in or out of anywhere you need.
