Nick Vallina (MisterGhostReads) (mister_ghost) | 110 comments My favorite book was probably The Day I Die The Untold Story of Assisted Dying in America by Anita Hannig

Definitely think a lot of people should read this book.

Mine was Under the Whispering Door by T.J. Klune - every so often, I still think about it!

message 1009: by Nick (new)

Nick Vallina (MisterGhostReads) (mister_ghost) | 110 comments TJ Klune is the best. I'm so glad more people are reading his books now that he's trad pubbed.

Christina T (crysteena73) | 182 comments Melissa wrote: "I forgot to ask, anyone want to share their favorite book from Round 2? Mine was The Women hands down. Still can’t get it out of my mind."

Mine was Late Bloomer by Morgan Hawes MM, A/b/o, enemies to lovers. At times it felt a little long but I'm not sure what the author could have taken out even at 444 pages.

message 1011: by Christina T (new)

Christina T (crysteena73) | 182 comments I'm working on my battle book. It's slowly sucking my will to live. I'll have it done by Sunday but there's nothing like a bunch of people writing stories about how they joined a cult.

message 1012: by Natasha (new)

Natasha | 1140 comments My favorite was Oathbringer. I'm almost done Rhythm of War which will give us a good number of points.

message 1013: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 3779 comments So many good books shared!!! Glad we all found something we really enjoyed last round!

@Nick - I saw that when I was adding it to the spreadsheet and thought it looked intriguing.

@Dawn - I enjoyed that one too but The House in the Cerulean Sea is my favorite by him. I am really looking forward to reading the sequel. I was disappointed in In the Lives of Puppets but I should have known it wasn't for me. I truly cannot get into books with robots and Sci Fi is my least favorite genre by far.

@Christina - ugh I am so sorry!

@Natasha - I've got to get to Brandon Sanderson's books ASAP!

message 1014: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 3779 comments If any of this is already done please let me know!

@Leslie - did you post your DQs answers for The Familiar? We have until Aug 2nd. Please add What Angels Fear to your shelf.

@Trinia - did you post comments about Mockingjay? We have until the end of the challenge

Thank you!

message 1015: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 3779 comments The Final BOM for the challenge will be Funny Story. It was my nomination so I get DQs (YAY!!)

Melissa | 3779 comments The final Mini Challenge has been posted. Please read through and let me know if you have any questions.

We will have to spin 2 wheels throughout the mini. The first connects to each district and once we read the books we will spin to read for another district. The second is a Spell it out. Spell outs can use the first letter of the title or series title (ignore or use THE, A or AN as you prefer), the first letter of the author, narrator* or translator* first or last names. For this version NO character names are permitted.

Our first spin of the wheel has given us:
District 7
WOOD in title
brown colour cover (50%+)
#7 in series
brown text on cover
item related to district on the cover
author first & last initials in LUMBER FORESTRY
set in Finland or Sweden (50%+)
plot element that can be linked to the district

and our Spell-it-out word is DOG-MUTT CRYPTIDS

These books should be finished quickly because we will not be able to spin for another set of tasks or a new word until one is completed. So, please claim a tasks but know that if a book fills a spot and is finished before yours it will be used instead so please, please no hard feelings! We can bank books read during the period of the mini to be used in later spins; we can NOT switch a book once the set of tasks have been completed. So every book will be used I promise!

More than likely we will need people to claim the District book since they are more tasks specific than the spell it outs.

message 1033: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 3779 comments This mini-game will start at 9am UTC 1 August, and end at the end of the challenge.

message 1034: by maria helena (new)

maria helena (mariahel) | 1924 comments My current book Gasten is set in Sweden. I can have it finished later tonight.

message 1035: by Dawn (new)

Dawn | 375 comments so as long as we finish the book after the mini challenge has started this is ok ?

if so I can do author first and last initials with Tricia Levenseller :)

message 1036: by Leslie Ann (new)

Leslie Ann | 941 comments I have The Brass Verdict (The Lincoln Lawyer, #2; Harry Bosch Universe, #19) by Michael Connelly for brown cover

message 1037: by Nick (new)

Nick Vallina (MisterGhostReads) (mister_ghost) | 110 comments I'm not 100% sure I understand what is expected of me right now? So are we just waiting for someone to finish a book for district 7 and then we get another district?

Is me reading The Dungeon Anarchist's Cookbook for one of the D's in Dog-Mutt Cryptids helpful? I'm continuing with this series lol

message 1038: by Nick (new)

Nick Vallina (MisterGhostReads) (mister_ghost) | 110 comments Ope nope. Okay I read the official posting over in the other thread and I understand now. so we have to finish all the things and then maybe we go get another district. Got it.

message 1039: by Nick (new)

Nick Vallina (MisterGhostReads) (mister_ghost) | 110 comments I will read No Elfing Way which is the 7th book in the Christmas Falls series.

message 1041: by Stacey (new)

Stacey (boydsmom) | 1377 comments Question for the mini: If we have a book that will work for one of the other districts tasks -- should we prioritize the spell out of the other district? So if I have a purple cover that works for District 1 but also works for several letters in our current spell out -- where should I put it? The spell out?

message 1042: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 3779 comments We can always wait and see if we need it to finish a spell it out or we can bank it. The only issue with banking it is we might not spin District 1. How fast we finish the District tasks will determine how many spins we get.

message 1043: by maria helena (new)

maria helena (mariahel) | 1924 comments I’ve finished my book for set in Sweden.

message 1045: by Roe (new)

Roe (roelynn) | 278 comments For brown text on cover- does it have to be all the text or just the title?

message 1046: by Melissa (last edited Aug 02, 2024 04:19PM) (new)

Melissa | 3779 comments Any brown text. Doesn’t have to be all the texts.

message 1047: by Roe (new)

Roe (roelynn) | 278 comments ok I got one!

message 1048: by green (new)

green | 18 comments I'm currently reading Tress of the Emerald Sea and more than half of the book takes place on a pirate ship (made of wood). Would that be related to lumber/district 7? I'm not sure if that's reaching lol

Melissa | 3779 comments Sounds like it works to me!!

message 1050: by green (new)
