Melissa | 3779 comments @Dawn- how are you doing with Iron Flame? Will you be able to finish before the end of this round?

message 452: by Leslie Ann (new)

Leslie Ann | 941 comments For next round second week I could read

Ancillary Sword

message 453: by Dawn (new)

Dawn | 375 comments hello! I'm planning to finish Iron Flame after work tonight- I'm on the last section :)

hoping around 6ish UK time to finish if that's within the round ??

message 454: by Christina T (last edited Jun 14, 2024 02:37AM) (new)

Christina T (crysteena73) | 182 comments I'm confused about the battle. Are we to come up with 10 strike books and 10 reposte books for a total of 20 books?

If I have that correct would it be best to find super long titles for our strikes and super short book titles for our reposte books?

message 455: by Christina T (new)

Christina T (crysteena73) | 182 comments If I have things correct in my brain for the battle my book Late Bloomer that I'm not getting to until next round only has 4 overlapping letters and looking at my TBR books like Want Me and Enemy only has 3 overlapping letters. So those would be good for our reposte?

For our strike books would something like....
A Beginner’s Guide to Revenge, Chaos, and Other Absurd Escapades be good? Has 19 letters of the alphabet with lots of repeated a, e, s, and r.

Christina T (crysteena73) | 182 comments I finished my horn book but can't add my finished date. It's showing an error in the cell. Strays finished 6/13/24

message 457: by Roe (new)

Roe (roelynn) | 278 comments i added the date for you!!!

message 458: by Roe (last edited Jun 14, 2024 02:34PM) (new)

Roe (roelynn) | 278 comments I think we need a better explanation because the way i thought it would go is they pick a book and then we have to pick one that fits and then they would pick one that fits our pick and so on and so on but idk this battle is confusing.

message 459: by Roe (new)

Roe (roelynn) | 278 comments ok i found an example another district used that was helpful!

Battle Title: Orphan Black
D6 Strike 1: Blackwater (BLACK overlap, 5 letters)
D10 Strike 1: Terms and Conditions (TER overlap, 3 letters)

Really enjoying it, the Crete books I’ve read for this challenge have been an eye opener

message 461: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 3779 comments Awesome Dawn thanks!

Yea mine did that too. I’ll be on the computer updating everything today so I’ll see what I can do.

For the battle- we have to let the other team know what book we’re reading then they will tell us what book they’re reading. Then we go and so on. Once we have all of our 10 books planned and week 2 starts we can read them in any order but we will only get credit for the order their planned. Does that make sense?

Louise | 3330 comments Battle Books

Adding this here for planning

1. D7: Verse and Vengeance

DISTURBING, You say?!

I'll read it :D

Nick Vallina (MisterGhostReads) (mister_ghost) | 110 comments Oh yeah this book sounds excellent omg haha Ancestor

message 465: by Louise (new)

Louise | 3330 comments To clarify for battle books
We need to plan our 10 books before the start of week 2.

Each of our 10 books needs to overlap our competitors book, the more overlapping letters the better

I believe the less overlapping letters is better as tie-breaker is - the team with the smallest number of overlap letters in their strikes, if all 20 books are read

Misread that bit

Louise | 3330 comments Nick wrote: "Oh yeah this book sounds excellent omg haha Ancestor"

Are we good with this book for strike 1

Nick Vallina (MisterGhostReads) (mister_ghost) | 110 comments Louise wrote: "Nick wrote: "Oh yeah this book sounds excellent omg haha Ancestor"

I'm happy to read Ancestor if we don't want to go with the other book that was suggested with more overlap.

message 470: by Leslie Ann (new)

Leslie Ann | 941 comments Ancillary Sword

Gives them Sword , which would be tempting to use and since tie breaker goes to the team with the fewest overlaps wins….

But either works….

message 471: by Roe (new)

Roe (roelynn) | 278 comments Nick wrote: "Oh yeah this book sounds excellent omg haha Ancestor"

I thought so too!!!

message 472: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 3779 comments We all did Louise lol

So if we go with Ancestor that gives them TOR

If we go with Ancillary Sword that gives them ORD

Either one is similar in books available for them I think. Whatever you guys want to do is fine with me

message 473: by Stacey (new)

Stacey (boydsmom) | 1377 comments Since I'm still figuring this out....don't we need an E on the end of our 3 letters? I'm not sure Ancillary works?

message 474: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 3779 comments You are 1000% correct Stacey. We do need ANCE so Ancillary Sword doesn't work.

Nick - if you're okay with reading Ancestor we'll go with that!

message 475: by Nick (new)

Nick Vallina (MisterGhostReads) (mister_ghost) | 110 comments for sure. I'll go download it now ;)

message 476: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 3779 comments @Nick - Please add Carry On to your Shelf

@Roe - Please add The Turquoise Ledge to your Shelf

message 477: by Nick (new)

Nick Vallina (MisterGhostReads) (mister_ghost) | 110 comments Whoops! Added!

message 478: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 3779 comments Thanks!

message 479: by Trinia (new)

Trinia | 2503 comments QUICK CHANGE OF PLANS!!! My Minotaurs book suddenly is set in Italy instead of CRETE. I've found a hopefully better book anyway and will finish in time by tonight.
The Summer Escape by Lily R. Graham

message 480: by Roe (new)

Roe (roelynn) | 278 comments Nick wrote: "for sure. I'll go download it now ;)"

Melissa | 3779 comments Thanks!

message 483: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 3779 comments Little over 16 hours left for Round 1

This is what we've got. If for some reason you won't finish your book give a holler!

Read a book with an orange cover - Dawn (Iron Flame)

Book set in Crete - Louise (The House of Dust and Dreams)
Book set in Crete - Trinia (The Summer Escape)
*We also have Natasha's book Ariadne if she finishes.

Book set in Idaho - Christina (North Pole)

message 484: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 3779 comments @Nick - perfect thanks! I'll let District 7 know.

@ Trinia - Hopefully, it's a better read!

message 485: by Samantha (last edited Jun 14, 2024 10:02AM) (new)

Samantha | 507 comments I think Ancestor would be too easy to just to TOR? I found a couple of other options in case any of these are interest! I haven't read any of them.

Ancestral Vices by Tom Sharpe Ancestral Night (White Space, #1) by Elizabeth Bear

Ancestral Vices
Ancestral Night

message 486: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 3779 comments OHHH Ancestral Night would be a good one. They would most likely have to read Night as I don't know if there is anything that would work for IGHT.

Any takers?

I will be holding off letting District 7 know until we decide which one to do LOL

haha will do! As a bookstagrammer boy I try to write fairly full reviews for most things I read :D

EDIT: unless we dont use it and then I probably wont get to it for 100 years with all the ARCs and review requests I get lol

message 489: by Nick (new)

Nick Vallina (MisterGhostReads) (mister_ghost) | 110 comments Ahh Ancestral Night looks pretty good and GHT is impossible to match lol so they likely WOULD have to use NIGHT.

I'd read that one too. I love a good space salvage vibe. lol

That was just the cutest little treat of a romance, with a touch of mystery! Love when those books pop out of nowhere!

Melissa | 3779 comments Amazing job for Round 1 team!!

Does anyone else plan on finishing any more books for this round? If so, please post them as soon as possible. It's 9:40pm here and I'll be heading to bed soon. The round ends at 5am my time so I will not be online LOL

All that we have left is Louise's The House of Dust and Dreams and we'll complete the mini!
