In another couple of years I might start getting them again, but need to remember to be realistic about how much I can read!

Yeah this is going to get into my brain for a bit. I hear from people who have played in rounds of my restaurant rocks that noticing food items becomes an ingrained habit.

Yes, I request a few only now and make sure the publish dates give me enough leeway. I am trying to avoid putting too much pressure on myself.

Much more sensible! I did the standard thing of getting overexcited when I first signed up.

Yeah same here. That came back to bite me a bit but I managed to get them all reviewed eventually (if a bit late).

Nothing more comforting than books stacked around one's bed, each ripe for the reading. Wishing you a languorous literary interlude :)

No more wringing for you please from now on! Fingers crossed recovering with your books makes everything feel a bit better.

How was Starling House? Currently undecided about them both.

Hmm - mixed for me: I loved the tone and story around the house in Starling House, so much so that I think it threw aspects of the book that I didn't like as much into sharp relief. The book reads more like a YA story, perhaps because the MC Opal is immature for her age. Opal's bad decisions made the book that much more stressful - found myself putting the book down just because I needed a break from her character. Overall, it's a good book, but it's like I could taste how much better it could have been, without really being able to put my finger on how to actually make it better.

I'm looking forward to reading it :)

There was a sci-fi adaptation called Jenna Starborn by Sharon Shinn that was fun.

I am also going to tackle that next as it is available on KU and includes audio. I enjoy tandem reading and audio the most as sometimes audio only is harder to follow.

In one of my books I put a protest down as a battle but only because it became violent back and forth.
Stephanie wrote: "Just wondering what the team thinks. Would a protest be counted as a siege or just a battle?"
What are they protesting? Are they defending a right or a location by the protest? Do they have any weapons (even one of amazing rhetoric)? Do they build any barricades or defenses against the police?
Just the fact it is a protest doesn't give us enough to go on to help.

Sorry I wasn't meaning to be picky, I was trying to give ideas on how to think about the protest to see if it would fit the various categories.
My plans for the weekend have fallen through. Rather than going to Manchester to stay with my best friend who I haven't seen for 2 years, I'm staying home to look after my husband and kids who have picked up the temperature that I had earlier in the week.

She's 6 months pregnant so probably wasn't the best idea to take my bug up to see them anyway. Think now it'll be going up to meet the new addition in the autumn instead.

I have quite a few books added as planned, now I just need to decide which one should be next.
I will continue re-reading The Wheel of Time series. I have lots of bones to pick with the books, but I have a special relationship with them. This was the first fantasy series I got hooked on in my early 20s and I finished reading the final book a day before giving birth a bit more than 10 years ago. 😅 So, Memory Lane and all that. 🥰
The first 3 audiobooks have been republished with Rosamund Pike's fantastic narration, but I don't think book 4 will come out any time soon, so I am settling with my paperback version unless I succumb to buying the earlier audiobook version with dual narrators.
The hard life of a book lover. 😅

Not a silly question at all! All you need to worry about is the tracking sheet. Stephanie, Teddie and I will sort the official sheet every so often.

You're welcome! I enjoyed her Samaria series, as much of it as I have read.

I haven't read that series yet. My favourite books by her are Troubled Waters & Jeweled Fire from the Elemental Blessings series and I also love The Twelve Houses series. Book 5 Fortune and Fate is my favourite in that one. :)
We'll all get there! Any of us who are healthy have a backup plan of going on a steam train and to do circus skills with my sister and her 2 children tomorrow so it's not all bad.

Yes I love how chill Mr. Rochester is and his quips to Jane.

Okey dokey, then! Thank you!!

Hope you enjoyed the steam train, Sophie!

I have stopped requesting ARCs for a long while and picked them up again recently and now I mostly request non-fiction books. I guess it is a phase I am going through. :)
