Melindam | 8291 comments Question for plot element Wood: in my next read, there are characters who have an "affinity" to wood and their "Prime" has magic related to wood/trees. Is that a good enough connection?

Sophie (drsophie) | 5684 comments Mod
Yeah that's good.

message 1653: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8291 comments OK, I'm adding it, but it will be approx 2 days for me to finish, so if someone else finishes another fitting book earlier, just remove mine. :)

message 1654: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8291 comments According to Sophie (comment above), we cannot use illustrator's name for the spell-out, so I'm putting my book back there. Will be done in a few hours.

message 1655: by Lucy (new)

Lucy | 271 comments I just finished Woodland Apeal which has Wood in the title, a wooden cabin on the cover (which I assume can count towards lumber) and all the characters work in forestry and spent most of the book in the wood (though admittedly only a small part of that is chopping down trees for lumber), if it can help to fit in anywhere.

message 1656: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8291 comments Lucy, it fits the wood-plot nicely, so we can remove my book from there, as I'll be some time finishing. :)

Suzanne | 5417 comments Wow - nice teamwork/figuring everyone!!

message 1658: by Vicki (new)

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 2326 comments OK I see that my book The God of the Woods is covering WOOD, so FYI I am starting it shortly and will get it read today!

I also am going to be reading The Angel of Indian Lake Not sure what it will work best for but I have to finish it today for another challenge. So I will be reading two books today..no time for anything else! lol

message 1659: by Catherine (new)

Catherine (royaltiescmb) | 660 comments I'm also working on two books. About 8 hours left for both= I think.

message 1660: by Teddie (new)

Teddie (teddieg) | 2288 comments Awesome job everyone!

Also @Cat: only whole numbers for series # will work for this mini.

Thank You- I found a shorter whole number in my reads :)
@Vicki- You will have to let us know how you like God of the Woods. I was hoping it will be a BOM pick (Not literal BOM but this site BOM) :) but its on my Libby holds list so I plan on reading it when I get it.

That's good, I thought a book that has wood in the title, cover and plot had to help with this particular district somehow!

It was definitely a good book! I love a good mystery/thriller and for me this one was 5 stars. Most of my mysteries are 4-5 stars unless they really bomb for me. I read one book though with a buddy and she gave a book 1 star that I gave 4, so you never know. We do a lot of buddy reads and we are mostly within 1 point of each other's ratings, but we've had quite a few that I loved but just didn't work for her. I have rarely give a 1 star rating. So you never know, but I recommend it. I had bought it from the Book of the Month aka BOTM. lol

message 1666: by Vicki (new)

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 2326 comments BTW, I won't be getting to my other book today as I had planned. As it turns out I don't need it for that one challenge, so I'm going to spend time with my husband. His days off are Thursdays and Fridays, but I had plans for both days so I feel like I need to spend the evening with him and I'm sure we'll watch the Olympics. lol I mean, gymnastics is on tonight! And I don't think we are in a hurry for my book which is 3rd in a trilogy, but if we are someone please give me a shout out!

I should have an 'E' book done by tomorrow.

message 1670: by Catherine (new)

Catherine (royaltiescmb) | 660 comments Looks like we need an O and E book to complete this challenge. I have checked through the finished books but may have missed one.

A Shot of Sin (Vault of Sin, #1) by Eden Summers

I've just finished this which will work for E or can be kept as a purple cover. I'll get it added to the SS later

message 1672: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8291 comments Shouldn't we keep Vicki's Shades of Grey for the set-in-Russia task?

Looks like we have others we can use for Purple. We should use this book for E :)

Teddie (teddieg) | 2288 comments Melindam wrote: "Shouldn't we keep Vicki's Shades of Grey for the set-in-Russia task?"

Yes. We need to make sure we are saving some of these banked books for the harder upcoming district tasks:

# in series (for higher numbers)
item related to district
setting
plot linked to district
cover colors (for the harder colors)

message 1676: by Catherine (new)

Catherine (royaltiescmb) | 660 comments OK so we need O and R

message 1677: by Sophie, The other one (new)

Sophie (drsophie) | 5684 comments Mod
I'd agree that if we have books that work for the harder to do tasks in the district sets we should keep the books there rather than slot them into the spell-outs (unless someone happens to have a Q book set in Argentina in which case we'll need to have a chat about it...).

message 1678: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 5417 comments For Alas, Babylon - I'm fine if it is used for the F, but it does work for related to nuclear weapon on cover and in plot, and that might be more useful?

message 1679: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 5417 comments I'm almost done listening to Gulf Coast Moonlight - it'll be done today. The narrators aren't listed on Goodreads, but they would work for LFPARWSEN. Here is the audible link:
https://www.audible.com/pd/Gulf-Coast...

Anyway - it's #5 in series, but that's not too hard, if we want to use it for a letter (like the F).

message 1680: by Cecily (new)

Cecily Black | 1805 comments Just food for thought - we seem to be flying through the spell-it-outs, which are longer, and each book is worth the same as the other arena (No extra benefit to doing the other tasks faster). Making the spell-it-outs a bit easier. Is there any reason not to focus on that instead of reserving "just in case." Is there a limit to one arena's spins before completing the other?

message 1681: by Teddie (last edited Aug 05, 2024 02:13PM) (new)

Teddie (teddieg) | 2288 comments It's not a bad thought - the points are the same. We'll hopefully go through districts faster as we go, as we'll be using more and more banked books for each new district we get, and I know people want to try to get all the districts, for fun.

I just asked for a new district spin - Let's see what we get there, and then decide whether we want to fill more of those current spellout letters and then find other books later for any tricky district tasks we might be using on a letter.

If we keep getting not too bad spellouts, focusing on those vs the districts may be a good shift in strategy.

Part & Parcel (Sidewinder, #3) by Abigail Roux this can be my next read which would do either a purple cover or a method of communication (letter) on cover.

As always, if I have you claiming a book that you don't want to read, or read right now, just speak up and we'll move things around. :)

message 1688: by Cecily (new)

Cecily Black | 1805 comments We could move my finished reads of E is for Evidence to the purple cover and The Collective for "vote" as the spell it outs are easier to fill?

message 1689: by Vicki (new)

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 2326 comments Just a reminder that my book Between Shades of Gray was originally read for set in Russia. I am absolutely okay with the cap/co-caps putting it wherever it works. Just wanted to make sure you guys don't want/need to save it for set in Russia.
