Marty (martymill) | 167 comments My confession for this week: You know those books where the main character is flawed and pathetic, has a golden-boy-sanctimonious-martyr spouse, and seems determined to eff up her life? I hate this kind of drama right off the bat. So I go to the end of the book and see what the last page says to see if I want to continue being annoyed. Blood Orange is one of those. I'm meanly glad about how it's going to resolve itself.

In the meantime, I'm going to be infuriated on her messed-up behalf.

If no one picks up I will read The Riesling Retribution (Wine Country Mysteries, #4) by Ellen Crosby

On line 99 of the SS under the FOOD column, it won't allow me to add anything to that cell. I got the others, SHELTER, WEAPON & DEFENSE, but I couldn't add to FOOD so something is wrong there.

Currently row 99 is one of Lauri's books. What was the title in the row causing problems?

Sorry I updated the SS before checking here.

message 1413: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie | 286 comments The book on that line is Lauiri's The last Devil to Die.
Are you on tracking or team sheet?

message 1414: by Vicki (new)

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 2326 comments I think I'm losing my mind. No, it WAS on line 99 and now it's not there at all. As of this moment: The Only One Left

This is the only SS I have open and added it to, the only SS I have saved. On this one: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...

But it's not on either one now!

Sophie (drsophie) | 5684 comments Mod
Ah that's because I've shifted it over to the main SS this evening and put it in for another resource piles.

If you ever can't find something, you can try take off the filter on column B and it will probably reappear.

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 2326 comments Okay I am not very good with SS in general. I just wanted to add the food part. Thanks 😊

It's there. I am so sorry to all of you for always needing something, it seems. I'll try to remember the filter next time, because I'm sure there will be. lol

Sophie (drsophie) | 5684 comments Mod
It's not a problem at all, and is part of why we are here! Especially since one of the reasons for your confusion is that we move and hide things.

message 1418: by Marty (new)

Marty (martymill) | 167 comments I finished my Battle book! I love these Akashic Books noir collections. I've read at least a dozen and they've all be great.

message 1419: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8291 comments I'm in the middle of my very middle-of-the-road battle book. It's readable, but I find it bland & run-of-the-mill. I'm hoping to finish in a day or 2.

Lucy | 271 comments I finished my battle books. Pleasantly surprised by An Obol For the Ferryman, Derail met my expectations. All added to the sheet!

Mine is currently acceptable but not great. Don't have an enormous amount of enthusiasm to sit and read it unfortunately.

message 1423: by Catherine (new)

Catherine (royaltiescmb) | 660 comments Wow your all so fast!! I am halfway done but after just finishing our BOM which took a lot of brain power I think I need something lighter than a mystery.

message 1424: by Lauri (new)

Lauri (otwlauri) | 1723 comments Still plugging away at the 2 BOMs… Am totally enjoying both actually! I’m still all over the place, but should finish The Familiar and a couple more books this week. Too much fun…

The Familiar by Leigh Bardugo

message 1425: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8291 comments Glad you are enjoying them, Lauri. 😊

Melindam | 8291 comments Yesterday I finished listening to The Extraordinary Life of an Ordinary Man: A Memoir by Paul Newman and loved it!

It's a set of self-reflective interviews, not a straightforward Memoir, but it was honest and touching and beautifully written. I love this guy even more now with warts and all. 🥰

I love him so THANKS for the suggestion! I'll def add that to my TBR :)

I'm with Lauri - working on the Mark Lawrence BOM and really enjoyed The Familiar - Bardugo is so good with complicated characters and a dark tone.

message 1428: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8291 comments Teddie, hope you'll like it. :)

message 1429: by Melindam (last edited Jul 24, 2024 06:13AM) (new)

Melindam | 8291 comments Pushed myself to finish my battle book. I was not a fan and mostly I feel relieved it's done.

It was a thriller and I don't like them in general, but here I was mostly bored by the cliched writing/characters and storyline. There was nothing here that hadn't been done before and done much better, I guess.

message 1430: by Vicki (new)

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 2326 comments I had some books to read for buddy reading, so I plan to start my battle book today.

That's always a bit of a pain when you have to finish a book and it's just dragging. But well done on getting it finished!

I could NEVER do that!!! How do you want to read the book if you already know the ending? That's just impossible for me to do. It's the not knowing and the suspense that keeps me going.

message 1436: by Vicki (new)

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 2326 comments Suzanne wrote: "Yes - great find Vicki!! Yay!"

I know this was a delayed response, but I see your message now. It wasn't exactly a great find. I had it planned for a buddy read so I just got lucky with the book letters we needed. But I'll take it because some of them are SO hard to find! lol

message 1437: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8291 comments Then you are one of those people with iron resolutions, Vicki. ♡

I'm with Marty on this: sometimes I need to know the ending to bother with a book and I don't mind spoilers in general. :))

message 1438: by Vicki (new)

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 2326 comments Spoilers drive me insane!!! Lol To each her own!

message 1439: by Vicki (new)

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 2326 comments Just to be sure, our battle books need to be read by when? I am putting my book off until tomorrow so I can use it for another challenge as well.

message 1440: by Cecily (new)

Cecily Black | 1805 comments I have added my battle book. I read the BOM during the challenge (it was excellent!) can I still participate?

message 1441: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8291 comments Vicki,

I think we need to finish by Monday (29 July) 9 am utc.

message 1442: by Vicki (new)

I saw the book at the library a few days ago on the "quick reads" section (have to return in 7 days), and went by this morning and it was still there, so picked it up. Yay!

Cool! I might need to try that as the wait for anything digital will be too long for Book Games. Hope you're feeling better too :)

And it's a good thing that I did read the last page, otherwise I wouldn't have stuck to it. Oof, another slog. Returning back to the other two I have started.

Marty (martymill) | 167 comments On another topic - who's watching the Olympics? That opening ceremony was amazing. Paris knows how to throw a party.

I resubscribed to Peacock so I could watch any sport I wanted. So far, I've watched the men's qualifiers for gymnastics, women's water polo, men's soccer and rowing. I'm currently watching women's beach volleyball. In short, not getting much reading done at the moment!
