Marty (martymill) | 167 comments Amsterdam needs to be the first word in the title, yes?

message 1252: by Marty (new)

Marty (martymill) | 167 comments I have an option: Amsterdam Noir. I love this series so I'm happy to take this battle on.

Sophie (drsophie) | 5684 comments Mod
That's right, we want the AMS at the start as an overlap to the end of their title.

message 1254: by Teddie (last edited Jul 15, 2024 12:04PM) (new)

Teddie (teddieg) | 2288 comments I took out Amsterdam as a backup based on Marty, Ushashi, and Lauri's response.

Amsterdam Stories also looks good.

There is also The Amsterdam Affair - this and Amsterdam are probably easier for D9 to find a book.

ETA: Oops, I am just seeing Marty's reply :)

message 1255: by Marty (last edited Jul 15, 2024 12:07PM) (new)

Marty (martymill) | 167 comments I'll get a copy of Amsterdam Noir ASAP then.

message 1256: by Teddie (new)

Teddie (teddieg) | 2288 comments Hmm, I'm just a little worried about how hard -oir (or even noir) might be for D9 -- anyone else have an opinion on this?

:)

Stephanie | 286 comments Alright I hope you enjoy Marty

message 1258: by Catherine (new)

Catherine (royaltiescmb) | 660 comments I hope it is Funny Story since I have already have that on Audio. I dont wanna buy the other one :P

Ah, well let me know what the general consensus is. I have the book in hand so I can start as soon as I get the green light.

Marty, it's been sent over to our opposition so please start it after 9UTC on 22nd July and finish it before 9UTC on 29th.

Will do.

message 1263: by Vicki (new)

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 2326 comments For page count, do we use the first book that comes up when you type in the title? I got a NetGalley book that was published July 9, 2024 and it's 464 pages but the first one that pops up says 329. Big difference, so I just want to make sure.

message 1264: by Cecily (new)

Cecily Black | 1805 comments I got way too much sun today! But it has been busy and it's almost over! I fly on Thursday evening! I should be able to pick up a bit more when I get home.

Vicki, it's the page count of your edition that needs to be used.

It is for audiobooks only when we need to use the default edition page count. 😊

message 1267: by Lauri (new)

Lauri (otwlauri) | 1723 comments I will definitely read both July BOMs. I don’t think I like these battles very much!

The Familiar by Leigh Bardugo The Book That Wouldn’t Burn (The Library Trilogy, #1) by Mark Lawrence

We got you, just have fun and read what you can/want.

We’re sending back…. Noir 😆

Noire

I've got this on KU if we can't find anything else

message 1275: by Maritza (new)

Maritza (spanishwhispers) | 2241 comments Good one Sophie.

message 1276: by Ushashi (new)

Ushashi (ushashib) | 567 comments I can't find anything with noir either.

message 1277: by Lucy (new)

Lucy | 271 comments There is also Noir Reformatory on KU (can't link on app) which I can read. It depends on what kind of letters we want to send over to them!

message 1278: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8291 comments I just saw that title on Audible, Lucy, but I think it would be uneccesarily harsh to the other team and would further complicate this for us as well.

message 1279: by Sophie, The other one (new)

Sophie (drsophie) | 5684 comments Mod
Ire at least have Ire as an word, I really, I remember, Ireland etc as options.

message 1280: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie | 286 comments That looks good so I hope you enjoy this one Sophie.

message 1281: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 5417 comments Yeah I think that is a nice one to send back really. Quite a few options. I feel really bad that from reading their thread they really think we are trying to make this difficult for them. I feel as if with the letters we've been given, there aren't tons of choices - I don't think we are being intentionally mean. But both teams have sure done a good job finding things!

Catherine (royaltiescmb) | 660 comments Suzanne wrote: "Yeah I think that is a nice one to send back really. Quite a few options. I feel really bad that from reading their thread they really think we are trying to make this difficult for them. I feel as..."

Yes, I think it is more about not just the challenge of finding something but reading something you would never had before. Although I too read District 9 and man that would suck if we all just read a book called noir the whole challenge. OOPS!

message 1283: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 5417 comments Yes! Sophie to the rescue with Ire - we all owe ya, Sophie!

message 1284: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8291 comments Thank you, Sophie. ♡

message 1285: by Lucy (new)

Lucy | 271 comments Didn't think we had been that mean since we've only had a couple of books but I had forgotten about last round! I am glad we're not switching Noir between us, that would have gotten old fast.

message 1286: by Sophie, The other one (new)

Sophie (drsophie) | 5684 comments Mod
District 6 and 10 have been having a lot of fun swapping the letters ONE backwards and forwards, but there are definitely more options for that chain!

message 1287: by Melindam (last edited Jul 17, 2024 05:23AM) (new)

Melindam | 8291 comments Yes, it can be nice when you are trying to have fun and if the other team doesn't automatically assume that you are out for their blood on purpose. :)

message 1288: by Vicki (new)

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 2326 comments I’m kind of out of the loop due to our computer dying on us a few days ago. We finally purchased a new one today but it will be a few days before it’s ready to use. Where are we on battle books? Has everyone who didn’t read last time had the chance to pick a book? Do we need anyone else to read and, if so, where are we in the process?

message 1289: by Melindam (last edited Jul 17, 2024 05:24AM) (new)

Melindam | 8291 comments I was contemplating reading The Book that Wouln't Burn, but I find the kindle version too pricey and because of my upcoming holidays I won't have the chance to listen to the audiobook (same for Funny Story - kindle version is 23 usd - what the eff?), so I'm letting these go.
But the backroom bom book just went on sale, so will read that one for sure.

message 1290: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8291 comments Vicki,

we are now waiting for D9 to send us their next title. :)

message 1291: by Lauri (new)

Lauri (otwlauri) | 1723 comments I have not changed my opinion about this whole battle thing! It’s especially hard for us library users! Still, I keep trying!

On a lighter note, I finished another book! Yaaaay!

message 1292: by Teddie (new)

Teddie (teddieg) | 2288 comments I'll be getting a start on The Book That Wouldn’t Burn today - is Funny Story the decided upon first book in August?

And I should have called attention to the Backroom BOM in the earlier BOM post:

A Nobleman's Guide to Seducing a Scoundrel (The Doomsday Books, #2) by K.J. Charles
Backroom BOM here

message 1293: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8291 comments Teddie, drinker of the bitter invention of Satan wrote: " is Funny Story the decided upon first book in August?"

I don't know if a decision has been made, but following the earlier book sequences (themed bom, followed by a general one), it is more likely that The Midnight Feast should be the next one. :)

message 1294: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 3779 comments It’s all fun and games! We don’t think you’re out for blood!

Our response is Ire of the Void

message 1295: by Melindam (last edited Jul 17, 2024 08:31AM) (new)

Melindam | 8291 comments I found Void Moon by Michael Connelly.

I am not mad about thrillers, but I can read this, if there are no other offers. Happy to give the floor to other claims first, tho'. 😊

(Moon shouldn't be too difficult for D9 or they could even go with Oon(a). 😊 )

message 1296: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 5417 comments I could do A Void of Magic if we want. I'd never heard of it, but I have access and it doesn't look terrible. But I'm fine not doing it - I suspect "Magic" is easy to match, but the shorter pieces are not.
