I took as Lauri is just out re: this round's battle - still with the team tho! :)

That was my thought!

Glad to hear the battle books are coming along ok. As with all things, if you don't think you'll finish by 9UTC on Saturday, please say and hopefully someone else will be able to pick it up.

Ushashi (ushashib) | 567 comments Hello hello!
It's amazing to see you all reading so many books for the battle to quickly. I'm close to finishing all my planned books so far. Library availability permitting, I could take up at least one book in the next round of battle.
Have fun with your books everyone!

Melindam | 8295 comments Finished my battle book as well.

It was a reread and I liked this book on 1st read (and the rest of the series), now I was wondering why. :)) I just moved on, I guess. But my library will get some free English books and I'll gain some much needed book space. :)

I have done that before. In fact I was like I should read/re-read all my books on my kindle (era 2008) and was like hmm, maybe not :P

message 959: by Lucy (new)

Lucy | 271 comments I can read a battle book on Saturday if need be. Probably a good thing I didn't manage to sign up for a book, this week I've either been ill or helping my parents move! At least this weekend I'll be more free.

Sorry for the confusion, Teddie! I just have a hard time finding books in time for a battle. I really wanted to, but every time the letters we had to use came up, I was either too late or I just didn’t have anything to fit. So when the last one came up, I just said I was out. I will never quit on my team!!

That's what I thought :) We'll have a Round 2 MINI hitting soon, and another book battle in Round 3 - plenty of opportunities coming up!

I would love a try at DQ's on 7/2. Also is it called extra entry to answer questions as well as do the DQ?

message 972: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8295 comments Awesome, Cat. The DQs are yours. :)

Writing DQs gets you/us 40 extra points. Answering 3 set is the "usual" 20 points. :)

Ok I will do both for the familiar. Also we need to wait until 7/1 to start reading is that correct?

I am sadly traveling all weekend but while I am on my 3 flights I can read whatever I fancy :)

Teddie I saw you have Tempest of Tea on your planned. I hope you enjoy. I tandem read with the audio because that's the best way to read a book. BUT I really enjoyed it. I hope you do too.

The Round 2 MINI is here, and we'll be building a SHELTER!

All the MINI details are here, but here are the 3 basic elements:

Part 1: How to build the Shelter
In this part, we'll be reading books with the MPGs listed.

Part 2: build 3 Walls
This will take a little more team coordination. We'll do 1 wall with series numbers 1-8 with a .5 book in there for a window, and be a little more flexible with series numbers in the other 2 walls.

As the book numbers don't need to be consecutive, we have a little more flexibility for those who are reading from series with lots of books, like In Death or Discworld. If you are planning on reading a series book, just fill in the book on the Round 2 sheet, and enter "WO##" in column O with the book series number in column P. You may need to look at the Shelter tab to see what WO number we're on. We'll switch that column O number when we assign a book to a wall. Please post series books you're thinking on the team thread as well! That will make it even easier to coordinate :)

Part 3: build a Door
Check on other districts' sheets to find a book someone has read and was used for the shelter category, that would work for door: brown cover, wood on the cover, door on the cover, w-o-o-d in title, etc. You'll also need to indicate who on the other team, read the book. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...

As always: don't enter your books on the Shelter tab, but only enter books and mini info on the Round 2 tab, with MINI info in columns N, O, P

Questions welcome! :)

message 977: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8295 comments Ooh, exciting! :)

I will hold back finishing ACOTAR 4 for the wall until after the deadline.

I added the Mini code to some of my planned books. These I'll finish for sure and I'll be happy to grab other tasks later, after evereyone could claim their share. :)

Apart from thriller/horror (and maybe contemporary), I am ready to take on anything. :)

message 978: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8295 comments I saw that Sammy from D1 read "Keeper of Enchanted Rooms" for Round 1 and it was used for "shelter", so I've claimed 1 Door task. :)

Thanks Cat! Good to know you liked it - I love that series :) If you haven't tried it yet, you may like the Veronica Speedwell series - another of my favorites.

I have started but have not finished Every Heart a Doorway which has a brown door on the cover, Can I wait and finish completely after 7/1 since I am only 40% in for it to count or do we need to start books after 7/1?

message 982: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8295 comments It counts as long as you finish after 1 July, 9am utc. :)

message 983: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8295 comments According to the rules posted in the "All About thread" for the door task to count another team needs to have read it and used it for "shelter" category.

Just to clarify we can only choose from Round two to look at other teams, books, read?

We can look at their round 1 and 2 books. Some teams aren't as good as others at updating.

Good point - I pulled my examples above as I didn't filter my options for the Used as shelter by the other team books only. I'll go back and review :)

Thanks Mel and Teddie for fielding questions! Friday night is swimming night for the munchkins.

https://www.goodreads.com/review/list... this is one of the ways I know what series books I have available. I'm also reading Agatha Christie out of order so can fill in some high number gaps with those.

Not sure what I am missing here, but you said not to enter books on the shelter tab, but quite a few people already have. So if I plan to read, for example, a historical fiction book, I don't put it there? I'm confused...once again! lol

*NOTE:Oh jeez, lol never mind. I figured it out!

Now why didn't I think of that? As we teachers always said, "I'm going to steal that idea from you." Not sure why we never said "borrow." lol

I'm in that now, and will finish in July, so perfect! Can use as door or series #2.

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 2326 comments Teddie, when I put in a few books for the mini on the Round 2 tab, the last book I entered didn't show the alternative categories. Not sure why, but it was for North Woods

And when I put in Don't Fear the Reaper for 2 in series it didn't transfer over. Maybe because I had one book there but moved it to another spot and added this one? I added the info on the Shelter tab since it didn't transfer over, so I hope that didn't mess with anything!
