Nothing But Reading Challenges discussion
Team Challenge - Book Games
>
District 7

Life has been keeping me v occupied this weekend! My sister, her husband and their son all have their birthday on 21st June so we spent yesterday at a family party and left much later than planned.
Then today we've had church, going to my dad's for lunch and a swim (yay the sun is finally here!) and then making cookies with my daughter. I will find time to read somehow!
In terms of planning for this round...
Given Suzanne's comment here (https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...) do any of you have opinions on how we split the resources?
Into 3 piles when we can protect them all and potentially miss out on the increase?
4 equal piles?
3 protected piles and a smaller unprotected so that the points change isn't so much if it drops, but we might still gain some?

Because our team reads a good amount of books, I think we are better off protecting from losing points rather than trying to get that .15 extra points on a pile.
I would say put everything in 1 (or 2) piles, protect those, and save the last supply drop for a mini task or something. But, I still am not sure whether we'll need specific resource piles for something at some point (and so would be bad to have no points in a certain pile, for example) so, I guess I'd take the same approach as we did last round: light on the unprotected pile, the rest divided in the other 3 and protect those.

3 protected piles and a smaller unprotected so that the points change isn't so much if it drops, but we might still gain some?
but I really have not much of an idea what will happen. I suppose that is the point!

Thanks everyone! Find it helpful to know how you are thinking about things so we can plan and move things across in a way that makes sense to everyone. Will let you know what the captains decision is because we know it's not a straightforward choice.
Thanks Mel. We had a wonderful time and the kids have had a great time playing with their cousins and charging about everywhere.

🥰

I hate losing points after all the hard work. I say protect what we can.

It's a quick turnaround time to ensure people have time to read and participate before the end of the challenge, so if you have a nomination, head over before EOD July 28Th

Sorry, sorry, sorry, I was caught up in some post-move issues. So all the battle books are spoken for, am I reading that right?

Yes, I think we're covered this round - we'll have another 10 battle books next round, so just in time for you to settle into your new place :)

Thanks, I should have all the issues sorted by then. This has not been the smoothest of relocations.
Well my battle book is nearly done which is just as well...
"his erect reproductive muscle moved in and out of her tunnel of commitment." I don't need to read more prose like this ever.

LMAO - oh wow. That is, wow.
This is in the final 5%, but the writing of the rest of it hasn't left me surprised that this is the way the author is writing the climax of the book.

No pun intended, I'm sure *snort*

LOL thats horrible and so funny

Oy...

Enjoying both BOMs a LOT, which is a nice surprise. Probably not going to read any door stoppers, but I’ll go up to the 400 page range….
Still having fun, which is my ultimate goal! Hope everyone else is having a good time, too.

It just seems so .. claustrophobic.

I'm glad you're enjoying the BOMs! Sometimes I wonder whether those little things that irk me about a book aren't made that much bigger when I read that those things also irked a bunch of other people, and then it snowballs - lol. I'm still always glad I participated tho.
Speaking of, July BOMs are gearing up. Our DQ Queen Melindam suggested the first book,

The second BOM starts July 15:

I volunteered for DQ's but please sign up if you want, or let me know if you want to use BOM credits to get an additional entry - I can delete mine.

Definitely some times where things haven't been said/written before for a reason!

Teddie - I know exactly what you mean about the snowball effect of negativity with some of the aspects of some books we pick up as a group.

Lol wow! That's hilarious Sophie!

Ooh, I would read both. I have The Familiar on my TBR. I volunteer as tribute for that one.

OOH yay those both sound so good and are on my TBR. If needed I can do DQ's or be backup.
Yay! 5 battle books down and 5 to go! Only glitch is that the ones that are finished are primarily the later ones.
Can someone who has read The Wishing Game please fill in the resource categories for it? Once it is done for one we can copy and paste to the other 3 copies. Lauri, Suzanne, Teddie and Vicki - I'm looking at you all!

I'm more than half done with my Battle book - it's long, but so interesting. And no "tunnel of commitment"....although that sounds more like a Lord of the Rings Term than how your book used it.

I copied all of Suzanne's to the other 3 - thanks Suzanne :)

Books have to be finished by 9am UTC on Saturday 29th June!

I'm a bit over 6 hours in for my battle book and greatly enjoying it. It's 22+ hours, so I have a ways to go, but so far so good.
