I suspect I overheard that conversation as it's on my tbr too. This might be the push I need to read it (or a Jo Nesbø that has been there forever).

Marty (martymill) | 167 comments I think I'll read Starling House for extra credit next month. I've added my name to the discussion list (on time, for a change).

Melindam | 8291 comments OK, so I just double checked The Writers' Retreat by Indu Balachandran and the Crete setting is around 45%, booooo. 😪

So I'll read The Moon-Spinners by Mary Stewart and An Island in the Sun (Escape to the Islands #3) by Holly Greene instead.

The mini tab looks fabulous from a planning perspective! Thanks everyone for looking at those tricky tasks and embracing them - makes such a difference.

message 465: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8291 comments I don't want to commit to more tasks until I finished a few of them first, but as soon as I am done with 3 or so, I will come back for more. :)

Don't worry, I've only got myself down for one at the moment as I just don't know what mood I'm going to be in for reading.

message 467: by Marty (new)

Marty (martymill) | 167 comments I put down a couple minis. I may grab more once I finish a few more books.

message 468: by Catherine (new)

Catherine (royaltiescmb) | 660 comments Same I signed up for several and will go back once I get some books read and minis done. I’m at the moment in the month I can’t decide what to read because there’s only a few days left 🤣

Sophie (drsophie) | 5684 comments Mod
At least anything you start now we can use for the mini. So long as you don't have other challenges going on that need things started after the 1st of the month.

message 470: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8291 comments I will be holding off my current reads and make sure to finish them after the 1 June deadline only. :)

Melindam | 8291 comments Teddie,

I found another Idaho book that could be added to the recommendations. :)

Pines (Wayward Pines, #1) by Blake Crouch by Blake Crouch

And there is a GR list called Horns: https://www.goodreads.com/shelf/show/...

Not every book has horns on the cover, but there are quite a few :)

I've just finished an ebook that was going back to the library in 2 hours whether I'd finished it or now, it will probably hold off on anything else for a bit

Melindam | 8291 comments Got chosen to write DQs for Starling House so I will also start on that one soon.

@Marty, as you are the back-up for District 7, please let me know, if you'd like to write the DQs.

No pressure, I am happy either way. 😊

message 480: by Marty (new)

Marty (martymill) | 167 comments In other news, Tender Is the Flesh is....ooof. Do not read if you are squeamish. I shouldn't have and I usually have a pretty strong stomach. And the sexual violence is over the top. The description doesn't warn you what's coming, like really at all. It's stomach-churning. I'm powering through because I'm almost done. It's too bad, because technically Bazterrica is a good writer. This could have been a much better story if the gore/SA had been dialed way down.

message 481: by Melindam (new)

I don't know if everyone is aware of the NBRC Backroom. You have to be 18+ to join the group, because discussions there are about books that are usually on the racier side of the reading spectrum. Having participated in a few of these, I will say that whatever the book lacks in literary merit, the discussion more than makes up for in hilarity, generally in an inversely proportional relationship.

Here's June's book discussion if you want to join in: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

(a bit tamer than the usual fare, but not EVERY book can have islands teeming with dinosaurs, women, and hot profs - lol.)

This BOM runs just like a main group BOM, with points for joining the discussion and writing Discussion Questions, though these BOMs don't count toward extra NBRC BOM entries.

Melindam | 8291 comments The kindle version of the backroom boom is currently 2,50 usd, so I bought it and am going to read it. :)

message 485: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 5417 comments Thanks for the backroom BOM update - I didn't vote because I was ok with reading either.

Today I am finally feeling much more human - yay! Not much energy yet, but I didn't spend 90% of my time in bed!

I have started a couple of my books that I won't finish til June 1 or later - I had to pick up that Peru one because it is talking about so many things similar to what we saw. So at least that aspect will be fun. And I am loving listening to The Door - thank you for recommending it Mel :)

Glad to hear you're on the mend, Suzanne. Hopefully today is another step to more energy. I love reading books about places I've been - adds a new dimension to the reading often.

Maritza, I hope the mojo returns soon. Just read what you can, no pressure from us on it - this is just for fun after all!

Maritza (spanishwhispers) | 2241 comments @Sophie - I know it's for fun. It's just that reading was always an escape for me and I enjoy reading but lately the author's are not speaking to me as much. I have been into thrillers lately and that seems to work best for me (reading stand alone books).

Have you tried Mary Stewart, yet, Maritza?

She didn't exactly write thrillers, more like old-fashioned romantic-suspense stories in nice locations in the 50s-60s. These are mostly the "thrillers" I can still take. :)

The Survivors by Jane Harper is probably one of the best standalone mystery/thrillers I've read recently.

message 494: by Vicki (new)

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 2326 comments @Marty, I noticed that you put a book down as finished yesterday for the mini-challenge. Just wanted to make sure you meant to put it down because the mini-challenge books have to be finished between June 1 and June 15. If you already finished it, you can't use it for the mini. At least that's how I interpreted the directions.

Thanks Vicki! I've just had a look and something had gone a little messed up with the autofill. It's all working now and the horns task is linked to a different one of Marty's books.
