message 253: by Vicky (new)

Vicky (librovert) | 3138 comments @Ashley - We have until the 21st to plan and then books will need to be read between the 22nd and 28th.

I haven't had a minute to check into my books but America/n is also an AME option. Remember we can use OR or ignore A/An/The so The American, An American, etc all valid as well.

message 254: by Kaley (new)

Kaley (kaleyamo) | 1978 comments Oh, I also have nothing for AME.

message 255: by Heli (new)

Heli | 509 comments I'll be happy to participate. I have American Dirt and American War on my TBR.

Thank you!

Vicky (librovert) | 3138 comments @Heli - That's awesome! Which would you rather read? We have to have them set in stone so that our paired team can pick the next title for their book.

American Dirt definitely.

message 259: by Cindy (new)

Cindy | 152 comments I can commit to one book for that mini, I don’t know if I would be able to do more than that

message 260: by Bee (new)

Bee (abirbee) | 667 comments The new mini sounds like a fun one, although all those rules make me dizzy. So I just hope you guys let me know what we need and I'll try and get it.

Beth | 637 comments Hi from District 12! Your supply drop books have been dropped, per this post.

Enjoy! 😊

message 262: by Elisabeth (new)

Elisabeth Rose (elisabethrose) | 820 comments American Dirt is a stinker to follow! Let’s use it. Hehehe

message 263: by Shelby (new)

Shelby (stang_lee) | 1981 comments Alright I've built a tracker for the Arena Games Here. So we can all see what's decided upon for both teams.

Heli - I'm going to lock you in to our first book and go and report our choice to District 13 so we can wait for their response.

Jax (jaxn) | 286 comments Strange Weather in Tokyo by Hiromi Kawakami

It looks like there's a bowl of noodles and a plate of octopus (per my friendly AI analysis). There's also a fridge full of drinks, would this count for 3 different food items? I just got it from the library and will finish it by Saturday if it does.

message 265: by Ashleigh (new)

Ashleigh (ashleighbailey) | 103 comments I finished my last book for the mini challenge, Morgan Is My Name, I can't wait to read the next in the series.
Perfect timing, as the next part of S03 Bridgerton airs today so I can focus on watching that!

Attack 2 - I do not have anything for 'IRT' but I do have a book for 'DIRT' Dirty Heads.

message 266: by Kaley (new)

Kaley (kaleyamo) | 1978 comments Ashleigh — happy Bridgerton day!! Did you watch the London premiere where they aired episode 5 early? I did and I have been impatiently waiting till the rest of the episodes drop since then. (Only 5.5ish hours left! lol)

message 267: by Ashleigh (last edited Jun 12, 2024 06:54PM) (new)

Absolutely would work. There's a ton of things in that fridge and all the boxes on the back wall look like stocked food just with Japanese packaging that I have no idea what's inside.

Ashleigh - so with the way the new mini challenge works we don't have to find a book to match American Dirty. That's on District 13. We have to match whatever book they find. So if your example was the book they chose we'd be looking for a book to match Dirty Heads. Basically we alternate books back and forth until we've reached 10 books each or put another way a chain of 20 books alternating D3, D13, D3, D13, D3, D13 etc... Does that make sense?

message 270: by Snowtulip (new)

Snowtulip | 4679 comments I can do the mini, can find basically anything :). I will be camping this weekend so I won't have easy access to check in, so if I can select before or after that.

Did we do our supply drop?

When we were in Tokyo many years ago I went into a small supermarket type shop to buy laundry powder but had no idea what was in any of the boxes on the shelves. Most didn’t have a picture of the contents just a happy smiling person. I ended up trying to mime washing clothes. Not very successfully, I thought, but the lovely lady helping me sold me a box of something which turned out to be correct. 😆

It was something they streamed online, so I think it streamed everywhere! It might’ve been at an unreasonable hour for you, though. (I definitely think it wasn’t restricted by region because there was a live chat for everyone and I know some people were stating it was 2 a.m. where they were — meanwhile it was 7 p.m. in London and 2 p.m. where I live)

No worries. We've got this entire next week to plan so I'm sure we'll still be figuring it out when you're back. :)

And we're planning on doing the supply drop sometime today.

I finished The Guncle Abroad last night but didn't get to my computer until now. It should be good now!

message 278: by Vicky (new)

Vicky (librovert) | 3138 comments I finished one of mine and am sub-two hours on the other one, I just need to get to my computer to update!

message 279: by Kaley (new)

Kaley (kaleyamo) | 1978 comments I don't think I'll finish another book before the first round ends. I'm trying to focus on my longer book now so I can get through as much of it as possible before my audiobook loan expires and I have to switch exclusively to the ebook haha.

Ashleigh (ashleighbailey) | 103 comments I can't believe Round 1 is almost finished! This has been such a fun challenge so far.

@Kaley - Definitely missed it, damn! But watched 2 episodes last night 😍

I agree, Ashleigh. Lots of fun and I’ve read books that have been lurking on my shelves for years. Great captains and team, too.

Rosina - Please make sure The Last Necromancer is added to your shelf. :)

Thanks so much!

It's not on ours, either! I'm working on migrating our most recent update to the official sheet so it should populate soon! :)

Vicky (librovert) | 3138 comments End of Round 1

Hey Team! We have about 10 hours until the end of the round. I'm working on an update now and Shelby will sweep up anything else at the end of her night. We have one hour after the round ends to finish updating the spreadsheet, so please make sure to get your books on the sheet with all their info!

My next post will be some spreadsheet issues to clean up as I work through the update. :) Just kidding, I didn't see any I couldn't clean up!

message 288: by Shelby (new)

Shelby (stang_lee) | 1981 comments Still at work but just an fyi update since I can’t really access the spreadsheet until I get home. I finished Hunger Games and Alpine for You. Going to add my last comment for the BOM after sending this message from my phone. Will attempt to add them to my shelf from the phone too so if you see this Vicky hopefully they should be there for update purposes.

Should have time tonight to squeeze in the last Crete book I found.

Catsalive | 423 comments My last couple are in. Can we get a countdown at the beginning of this thread so I don't have to keep working out when the round starts & ends? For the next rounds, anyway.

There's a countdown on the Timers tab of the spreadsheet! It automatically updates so it's been easier - but we could put something at the top of the thread too if you'd prefer?

Of course there is! I remember you saying that earlier but I forgot all about it. On the ss is fine just as long as I don't forget 🤦😖

message 292: by Ashley (new)

Ashley Elig | 68 comments We can start books before the start for the next main round or whatever we call it, right? (The part with the weapons, shelter, food, and defense.) Is it as long as they were started after the challenge began and finished after the "round" started? Also, do we know what exactly we do with all of these books. Are we evenly dividing between the 4 categories? I feel like I still have no idea what the actual purpose/goal of the main challenge is.

message 293: by Kaley (new)

Kaley (kaleyamo) | 1978 comments Apparently I did have one more book in me this round (planned on spreading it out but couldn’t put it down . . .). Adding to the SS now

Yes Ashley anything started now can just be carried over and finished during Round 2 and count towards that round. :)

I'm not exactly sure of it all either when it comes to the challenge. Right now I'm just having fun reading. :)

message 295: by Shelby (new)

Shelby (stang_lee) | 1981 comments Elisabeth! You have the most glorious timing! I see you're on the spreadsheet now and I was just about to do an update. Love seeing our last mini book get finished. :)

message 296: by Elisabeth (new)

Elisabeth Rose (elisabethrose) | 820 comments Hah! Not sure how much was actually In Panama. Probably just enough.

Lucy - Please make sure Crushed is on your shelf and has a read date. :D - Also if you could add resources that'd be great.

The struggle for survival in the arena is a never ending cycle. Sometimes a tribute will luck into a boon but they are just as likely to be a victim of sabotage.

The Randomizer was let loose on all of the teams' resource supply piles. The Arena Masters are not heartless, the news isn't all bad. At least this time.

In Round 1, 1 pile receives a boon (15% page point increase), 2 are left alone, and 1 is the subject of sabotage (15% page point decrease). Impacts to resource supply piles are team specific.

Your team's randomizer results

Weapons: Left alone (protected by supply drop so left alone)
Shelter: 15% increase (protected by supply drop so left alone)
Food: 15% decrease (protected by supply drop so left alone)
Defense: Left alone
