☼♎ Carmen the Bootyshaker Temptress ☼♎ | 7238 comments I’ve completed my O book. I’ll get the updates when I’m not on my phone app. I can’t see. Lol

Elisabeth Rose (elisabethrose) | 820 comments Has anyone got any ideas about the nuclear stuff on the cover? I had a quick search and there are quite a few books on Hiroshima etc so I guess something to do with atoms, red sun images, bombs or nuclear subs. All pretty grim reading… Hiroshima Diary The Journal of a Japanese Physician, August 6-September 30, 1945 by Michihiko Hachiya Hiroshima by John Hersey Fallout The Hiroshima Cover-up and the Reporter Who Revealed It to the World by Lesley M.M. Blume

TheHiroshima Diary is available at my local library with a different cover. The Doctor of Hiroshima by Michihiko Hachiya so I can grit my teeth and pick it up. I have my L book to finish as well so it will take a few days to get through. Any other takers?
It’s the anniversary of those bombings. August 6th and 8th.

Susan A | 461 comments Brace for Impact (Nuclear Survival Saga #1; Nuclear Survival Southern Grit #1) by Harley Tate

I can take the hit and read this tonight and tomorrow

☼♎ Carmen the Bootyshaker Temptress ☼♎ | 7238 comments That was also what I got as a search too. Hmm I’m wondering if historical fiction would have more options.

Snowtulip | 4679 comments Thanks for taking the hit Susan!

Looks like we are close to finishing our Arena Hazard, so I will try to finish my E book.

☼♎ Carmen the Bootyshaker Temptress ☼♎ | 7238 comments Oh I didn’t see Susan’s book since the app is terrible but thanks Susan 🙂

Susan A | 461 comments I'm feeling guilty. I leave for vacation on 8/10, so I only have a few more days to add specific books. I'm not planning to do any challenge specific reading while on vacation. If anything fits, I'll post here and ask someone to add to spreadsheet, but I don't think it's likely.

Don’t feel guilty, I’m very pleased I don’t need to read the Hiroshima book.😀

Elisabeth Rose (elisabethrose) | 820 comments Unless someone has a C book on the go I can read another Agatha Christie quickly.

message 910: by Kaley (new)

Kaley (kaleyamo) | 1978 comments No C book here.

I’m finally feeling a little human again. Turns out what I thought was a sinus infection was actually COVID! I had tested negative earlier in the week but I think I tested too early — two of the people I was with last week tested positive today. All this to say — I’m hoping to get a good few hours of reading in tonight since I actually can attain some level of concentration today!

I’ll finish the C book today.

Elisabeth Rose (elisabethrose) | 820 comments This is weird. Maybe it's just me on my PC but the bookpages no longer display publishing details or other edition lists.

Susan A | 461 comments Elisabeth wrote: "This is weird. Maybe it's just me on my PC but the bookpages no longer display publishing details or other edition lists."

I noticed that too. Is this another “improvement”?

message 917: by Vicky (new)

Vicky (librovert) | 3138 comments Well, that's obnoxious. It looks like you can click on "Fewer Details ^" to collapse that section and then click "Book Details and Editions" and the list of editions comes back but still no publishing/page count data. But you can click "Show All Editions" to see page count numbers for everything. It's tedious but workable.

I can't imagine them removing that information all together, I feel like that's pretty basic book information, so I'm inclined to think it's a bug that hopefully gets fixed soon.

As a GR librarian I can still access all the information from there, so if for reading an audiobook, don't know/aren't on the official page count for your book or are on vacation and it's too much hassle to finagle your way around; feel free drop a ? in the page count box when you finish the book and I'll go in to double check.

Snowtulip | 4679 comments Just added my book to finish Arena Hazards, so we are done!

message 919: by Susan A (new)

Susan A | 461 comments Hey Team -- I'm leaving for vacation tomorrow. I may not get much more reading done. I have a long drive but it's kind of hit or miss for me whether I can read in the car.

If I do get anything done, can I post in the thread and ask for help adding to spreadsheet? I won't have access to a laptop.

and

I probably won't be going through all of the district information -- do you still want me to post the book, knowing that I won't be giving you any extra info?

message 920: by Vicky (new)

Vicky (librovert) | 3138 comments Susan A wrote: "If I do get anything done, can I post in the thread and ask for help adding to spreadsheet? I won't have access to a laptop."

Definitely, as long as you get it on your shelf we can take it from there! We can always use your books for letters, so no need to worry about the districts. :)

message 921: by Vicky (new)

Vicky (librovert) | 3138 comments Snowtulip wrote: "Just added my book to finish Arena Hazards, so we are done!"

I'm just running some quick errands and have to feed myself, then I'll be back to sort this!

I think since we're so close to the end of the challenge we'll just keep this word instead of gambling with the nasty letters. So if anyone needs to be pointed in a particular reading direction, there you have it!

☼♎ Carmen the Bootyshaker Temptress ☼♎ | 7238 comments GR is driving me crazy as well. It has been screwing up my book dates. I don't think the improvements are getting better. :/

message 923: by Vicky (last edited Aug 09, 2024 08:52AM) (new)

Vicky (librovert) | 3138 comments Mini Update

I put in the Arena Hazard AND was able to complete another full spell out of ELECTRIC FORCEFIELD from the bank!

We've got a handful of books in the bank right now that don't have any letters for another electric forcefield, so I'm going to gamble with a new spin and see if we can't cash them in for some bonus points!

Also - we will respin when we finish up the District Wheel, but we'll probably shift focus to the spell outs. We get the same number of points for each; and it's definitely easier to find letters with a quickness than some of the district tasks! If anyone is reading a book or we have any banked books that work, we'll slot them in (I'm assuming but double checking that we'll get credit for 1 partial complete for each wheel) but we don't have to stress about completing it.

message 924: by Vicky (new)

Vicky (librovert) | 3138 comments Mini Update Part 2

Well the spin helped a little with clearing out the bank, I was able to slot in 7 more books... but it wasn't a particularly good spin.

CARNIVOROUS SQUIRREL

What we need:

C
E
I x2
L
O x2
Q
R x3
U x2

message 925: by Vicky (new)

Vicky (librovert) | 3138 comments ALSO....

Last post, I promise.

I did a full sweep of everyone's shelves and added books that were on your shelf up to this point.

If you don't see it on the spreadsheet it's because we've hid the books we've turned into the official spreadsheet to make it easier to sort through for letters, etc.

☼♎ Carmen the Bootyshaker Temptress ☼♎ | 7238 comments Awesome Vicky! I will see what I have that can fit was we need. Hopefully some audios while work is being nice and having some down time. lol

I'm currently working on a book that would fit 'L'

message 927: by Shelby (new)

Shelby (stang_lee) | 1981 comments I've got a Q I can tackle quickly to get us through this spin. :)

message 928: by Elisabeth (new)

Elisabeth Rose (elisabethrose) | 820 comments GR is working properly! Must have been a glitch. What a relief.

I have a short Q book too, oddly enough. 😀

message 929: by Kaley (new)

Kaley (kaleyamo) | 1978 comments Oh, phew! I was really upset about that book pages disappearing thing. It seemed nonsensical that they’d make that change but they’ve made nonsensical changes in the past 🤣

I don’t think my current read fits for any of those. I’m hoping to finish it by tomorrow morning — and my husband is dog sitting for his mom tonight so I’ll have a lot of uninterrupted reading hours.

message 930: by Susan A (new)

Susan A | 461 comments Please add to spreadsheet

Thank you

Catsalive | 423 comments I put Ladies' Night in Finbar's Hotel this on the ss a couple of days back & it's not there today. I'll put back what I can remember but you might want to check if anything else has gone.

message 932: by Vicky (new)

Vicky (librovert) | 3138 comments @Kylie - it's probably still there. We hid a lot of the books we entered on the official sheet to keep the list a little more manageable!

Catsalive | 423 comments Vicky wrote: "@Kylie - it's probably still there. We hid a lot of the books we entered on the official sheet to keep the list a little more manageable!"

I couldn't see it there either but I only looked in the round3 sheet. I did just find it in arena hazards. I'll take it off tracking.

message 934: by Ashley (new)

Ashley Elig | 68 comments Sorry, I was totally MIA while I was on vacation AND I got very little reading done. I wasn't even able to finish one book. In fact, I barely even started one book. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get into the one I had started in July and ended up putting it on hold. I'm hoping that maybe now that I'm home I can get more reading done, but I may not be contributing anything to this mini. I'll try to get at least one of the 2 books I am not actively reading done and hopefully it will fit somewhere.

message 935: by Kaley (new)

Kaley (kaleyamo) | 1978 comments Read a quick C book for part of our spell out. I have it on the spreadsheet but haven’t linked it yet bc I’m on my phone — I’ll link it in the morning from my computer!

message 936: by Elisabeth (new)

Elisabeth Rose (elisabethrose) | 820 comments Not sure I’ll finish my O book in time but can sub in a shorter one if I find I can fit a book in after I finish the I book. There’s another O spot free so I’ll leave mine but bump it if necessary.

message 937: by Shelby (new)

Shelby (stang_lee) | 1981 comments Ok I'm feeling a little ridiculous. I went into my shelf to find a Q book that I posted, completely oblivious to the fact that my bookclub's book this month is by Kate Quinn. *headdesk* Just finished that audio going to add it to the sheet here shortly and will swap it out with my stated Q book.

message 938: by Elisabeth (new)

Elisabeth Rose (elisabethrose) | 820 comments A trip to the library produced a short O which I swapped with my long O. Will definitely finish this new one in time.

message 939: by Kaley (new)

Kaley (kaleyamo) | 1978 comments One of my most highly anticipated books of the year comes out tomorrow and I'm struggling because I don't think I can finish it before the deadline. The audio is listed as 37 hours right now. :-| I do listen at an increased speed so it's definitely not impossible, but I also don't want to rush myself. I might put off starting it till the challenge has ended. I can't decide. LOL.

message 940: by Ashley (new)

Ashley Elig | 68 comments I see we have an R spot open. I'm listening to Let the Games Begin by Rufaro Faith Mazarura and it would work (author's first name) but I'm just not sure I can finish by 8/15 so I'm not going to claim the spot at this point. I wish we had the full day on the 15th to read because I think I could finish it by then. If I start to feel confident that I'll finish, I'll add it to the sheet if the spot hasn't been claimed yet. I'm only about 20% in but I'm enjoying it and find myself wanting to get back to it. How fast I finish will really depend on how much audio time I can get in with my 2 young kids.

message 941: by Shelby (new)

Shelby (stang_lee) | 1981 comments Just did an update to get one more spin in for us for this last day...

Kylie - Could you please make sure Paradise and Renegades of Pern are on your shelf? Also please check you're finish date on Renegades. :)

Heli/Susan/Kylie/Cindy - I added any books of yours that were on the shelf after August 10th, but didn't look to be added to the spreadsheet. If you guys are online at all today could you please fill in any resource information. :)

message 942: by Shelby (last edited Aug 14, 2024 10:12AM) (new)

Shelby (stang_lee) | 1981 comments Alright guys we've got a little less than 24hrs left in this challenge. As you post your last books, if you wouldn't mind sounding off in the thread that'll let Vicky and I know what we might still be expecting to come in. You guys are the best!

Also tried to get us come different letters with a new spin of the wheel, but the wheel gods hate us and gave us Carnivorous Squirrels again. With what we already have read I filled in a bunch of it, but here's what we're missing if anyone wants to tackle something short today.

C - Lucy
N
V - Carmen
O - I'm almost done with a short one here
U
Q

☼♎ Carmen the Bootyshaker Temptress ☼♎ | 7238 comments I'm nearly completed with Rock My Bed by Michelle A. Valentine which will work for V

Shelby (stang_lee) | 1981 comments Sweet!

message 945: by Kaley (new)

Kaley (kaleyamo) | 1978 comments I don't have anything else that I'll manage to finish before the deadline.

message 946: by Lucy (new)

Lucy Luu (lovelucyluu) | 238 comments I just finished It Ends with Us by Colleen Hoover which will work for C.

message 947: by Ashley (new)

Ashley Elig | 68 comments Looks great! I'm going to really push myself to finish Let the Games Begin because I was able to get a lot more read the other day then I expected. I'll put it on the spreadsheet for R, but feel free to remove it if someone finishes up something sooner because it likely won't be finished until late-ish tonight (EST).

message 948: by Ashley (new)

Ashley Elig | 68 comments Also, Libby says the narrator is Shaniqua Okwok but I don't see that listed anywhere on GoodReads so I'm not sure if that counts. The only audiobook version on here is the audible, which is not what I'm listening to but it is still the version I am linking because it is audio.

☼♎ Carmen the Bootyshaker Temptress ☼♎ | 7238 comments I'm working on the letter 'S'. I'll look to see what else I have that can work for other letters.

message 950: by Jax (new)
