@Ashley - Just add it on the main tab! I'm back from my trip/readjusting to reality and will be getting online to do a big update tonight so I'll make sure all the battle books are marked appropriately!

Hey guys so I'm doing a quick double check of shelves to spreadsheet, so Vicky can do a full update tonight. Here's a couple of things...
Cindy - I noticed you had Magic Claims on your shelf but not on the sheet, I added it, but could you please go in and add resources when you get a moment?
Jax - Similarly I added The Marriage Portrait from your shelves if you could please add resources. Also Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Business Adventures are not currently on your shelf.
Lucy - I added two of your books, Yes No Maybe, and Crying in H Mart to the sheet, if you could please add resources?

Yes ma'am! Will do!

Fixed

I double checked - you're all good! :)

- If you have an outstanding Battle Book (Ashley, Jax, Lucy, Snowtulip) I've added them to the tracking tab of the spreadsheet with just the title and your name so we could get all the Mini Ref numbers attached to them. As I'm typing this we have about 2 days and 10 hours until we need those books finished; no rush but keep us posted if you need a backup!
- Unless your book currently has no resources listed, I've moved it over to the official sheet and I moved over all the BOMs. We're really doing great since the first round - we're solidly in the middle of the pack and it looks like this will probably be our best round yet!
- There is a new mini coming. We're currently previewing it in the captain's group and shaking out all the bugs, but it's one that should be a lot of fun! I suspect we'll see that over the weekend or Monday at the latest; and it will start at challenge time on August 1st and run through the end of the challenge. This will be one where we might want to start thinking about holding books we haven't quite finished to attribute them to the mini; so keep that in mind if you're planning books for next week. :)

I'm trying to get my barrings on what I need to do. This is my shelf https://www.goodreads.com/review/list... and I will get the spreadsheet request

Take your time. Once you're added to the spreadsheet remember anything you've read since July 15th will count so you can add them in. :)

Just stopping in real quick to say that the new mini that starts August 1st is out! I'm on my phone so no links at the moment, but it's all in the main All About thread in this folder - so go check it out and ask all the questions!
Note that we can bank books for this so if anyone wants to hold off on finishing any current reads until Thursday (even if they don't count for the current tasks) we might be able to fit them in at some point over the two weeks. Absolutely not mandatory though. :)
I'll be around later today to get us some new spreadsheet columns and answer questions!

I've added my books to the spreadsheet. I will get to where it fits as well.

Looks good! Thanks! :)

The final mini is here! If you haven't seen it already check out the rules here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
For anyone who has done challenges here in the past a lot of this is familiar. The District Wheel portion is akin to the monster mini from Tower Teams 9/Marauding Monsters and the Arena Hazards are a Wheel-a-Thon.
Important Differences!
1. For the District (Monster-esque) Wheel, one book = one task. No finding a book that works for multiple tasks.
2. For the Arena Hazards (Wheel-a-Thon/Spell Out) we can NOT use character names for this incarnation; so we are limited to Title, Series, Author, Narrator (if you listened to the audiobook), and Translator (if you read a translated edition).
3. Each time we finish a set of tasks we can choose to keep it OR spin for a new set.
Spreadsheet Additions
There are a few!
1. New Tabs for District Wheel and Arena Hazards: this is where we will plan/claim books. Per the norm add your title/name/reason to this tab and check it off when complete.
2. Mini Options Bank ion the Tracking Tab: this is where you'll input any relevant information about your book. The captains will need to request a new spin from the captain's group when we complete a set of tasks; and when we enter it into the spreadsheet we'll be looking for anything we've already read that we can use to fill in and then we'll see what we have left to fill with new/current reads. We have a few requests to make this as smooth as possible:
-Letters: Please enter any letters that apply for the Spell Out rules of the challenge. To make it easy on us please use the format Title/Series/Author/Narrator*/Translator* (*if applicable) and skip any that don't apply.
Examples: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo TG/M/SL/RK
Mockingjay M/H/SC
-Countries: This is a drop down with all applicable countries.
-Color: Use this column for BOTH a 50%+ cover color AND text on the cover. No need to differentiate!
-Plot Elements, etc: This is probably the most important because unlike all of the other potential tasks it's not something easy for us to search for. You can also put any other relevant information here you feel might be useful. Here's an example of how I'd use this column, you don't have to do this exactly but the numbers will be helpful for us to search:
Leather & Lark 1. Wedding Rings Exchanged, 3. Hacking/Computer Searching, 6: Lark takes an uber, 8. Lark is in a costume the first time she meets Lochan, 10: Lochan is a leatherworker, Cap: Lots of texts and phone calls in the book.
Some Thoughts on Strategy
This mini will move fast and for the benefit of the team I'd like to ask everyone to be flexible in relinquishing their claims so we can keep things moving. If we're waiting on me to finish a book for a U to spin the next spell out and Shelby reads a quick U book - we're going to sub hers in so we can get that next task set. We will find a place for your book somewhere along the way; but we will benefit more as a team from getting new tasks and our goal as captains is to keep the wheels spinning!
That said - if you're a fast reader and you want to claim books, great! If you're a slower reader and you just want to vibe out and read books to toss them in the bank without the pressure - also great! I think the tasks we'll really want to focus on claiming are series books (especially the #5+ in a series tasks) and settings (because there are a few that may not have too many options).

Our starting spins for the mini are:
District 11, Agriculture
FARM in title
green colour cover (50%+)
#11 in series
green text on cover
item related to district on the cover
author first & last initials in AGRICULTURE
set in Mexico (50%+)
plot element that can be linked to the district
and
Other Tributes (spell-out)
Feel free to start plugging in some books - just remember that we can only count books FINISHED after challenge time on August 1st (2 days ~11 hours from this post); so if you want to claim tasks with your current reads make sure not to finish them early! Also if you do finish any books before the mini starts, feel free to disregard all the extra mini fields. ;)
One thing I want to do with every new spin is to open discussion on whether we will keep or replace these tasks after we finish them. I'll start off with some of my personal thoughts to get things going:
For the District Wheel - I think that unless we have two people each (or one person with two books) who can fill the 11th in a series and the Mexico tasks with a quickness; we respin on completion. In general, I think Districts 1-4 are probably easier ones to sit on series wise and their countries aren't terrible either.
For the Spell Out - I like numbers and did some stats on all the words (you can see them on the Letter Counts tab if you're interested) and I think if we're going to hold on to anything we make it skewer-beaked birds, electric forcefield or tidal waves; with tidal waves being my #1 choice (it only duplicates A and even though it has an I and a V, it's only one of each and there are lots of common letters). That said - I don't like holding onto Other Tributes because it requires IOandU which are all less common, and without characters this time we have way more limited choices.

Question: The Hot Zone Rainshadow #3, Ghost Hunters #11 -- both listed. This is okay for 11? If not, I have just 1 #11
2. Your spell reasoning sounds good.
3. I like having a plan in place for the next spin.
Mexico - if anyone is looking for something, this is set in Mexico and was decent

Thanks, Vicky. I thought that might be the case. I'm super annoyed at the whole situation both for my own personal records and challenges. James Patterson puts out plenty of BookShots. I don't know why he didn't do that with this one.

All that being said, I will likely be throwing my books in the bank unless I have a carryover (or 2) from my current reads that I finish early next month. I'm hoping to finish them in July for other individual challenges, but chances are I will not finish at least one of them.

1. I do have 2 #11 I can commit to, although your reasoning for not keeping the current wheel seems good.
Question: The Hot Zone Rainshadow #3, Ghost Hunters #1..."
Susan typically they go with the series that is listed as the one that appears in the grey scale at the top of the page, so for The Hot Zone that Would Be, Rainshadow #3.

I lovedddd this one. I read it right before the challenge started unfortunately, but I highly recommend it.

I also loved it! My favorite Emily Henry yet!

Yes!!! It felt like she wrote it just for me which I know was not true but the book started on my birthday, ended on my wedding anniversary, and the FMC's tough breakup at the beginning (hopefully this isn't a spoiler cuz it's in the blurb) was very similar to my last breakup before I met my husband. Oh, and the BFF's name was my BFF's name. It felt like she inserted herself right into my brain so I was obsessed from the start lol.

Sounds perfect Kaley. :)

I'm looking forward to reading it. I think this is the first time that I've had a BOM actually be a book that I have already chosen as one of my reads for another challenge. :D It's on my Meet & Greet list for RRRC this round as well.

Or someone else could.

item related to district on the cover
plot element that can be linked to the district
What does this mean ... just anything that has something to do with Agriculture? Something as simple as a tree or the sun/rain on the cover?
*****
And, I moved my O book to I because I have another O book I plan to read very soon, but I left it open because I don't want to take too many spots.

Plot element as someone living on a farm or plantation, selling farm equipment etc In the Miss Marple book I’m reading someone went to India to run a tea plantation but didn’t end up doing it. If he’d stayed I think that would work even though it was 18 years earlier.
I have a book set in Africa on a coffee plantation but it’s long and with very small print so I’m putting it off.
It’ll be interesting to see what the team thinks about a tree and rain.
Rain is certainly necessary to agriculture but a tree might have to be the right type.

As for trees, I did a google search -- are trees agriculture? And the answer was yes -- forestry & agroforestry are part of agriculture. Stuff about the relationships between trees and soil.
So while initially I thought trees were a stretch, based on this answer, it's not. Unless the standard is something like completely obvious to everybody

As for trees, I did a google ..."
I suppose any tree can be cultivated and used for something even those that aren’t fruit bearing. They’re used for windbreaks and stock shade too.

I would say the standard for the items on the cover is definitely "make it work." The same goes for plot elements, with the caveat that it needs to be something important to the story and not just a passing mention of trees blowing in the wind or driving past a farm on a road trip, etc.
Also - it's about two hours past the August 1st challenge time so happy mini reading! As long as they don't send me to a different department I should be able to finish up both my current reads today and then I'll look at what else I can start to help out!

That said, if someone ends up finishing a book that works for my task before I do, please do shuffle it around. I am always 100% OK with that.

I have another O book I plan to read very soon (O/L/JS/RF), but you can move my things all around as needed. I'm just reading my already scheduled stuff for now.

Still Born - Set in Mexico, but also hits SRH letters for the spell-out. This is quick but I probably won't finish it until the weekend because I have a feeling based on the synopsis that my so-close-to-6-month pregnancy hormones won't let me get through it without some FEELINGS and I don't particularly want to set off the sobs during work.
The Simplicity of Cider - This hits green cover, as well as a district item on cover (the apple tree), plot element linked to district (MC is a cider maker on an apple orchard) AND will hit TSR on the spell out; so it's got lots of good options.
I claimed the Mexico spot for Still Born - but if someone else gets their first, cool! Since the other book fits all three remaining spots on the district wheel I'm going to leave it unclaimed for now until we see what else gets read over the next few days. :)

I finished my 3 claimed books
I can move on to an O book, or I can read this for Mexico Serial Killers of Mexico: Chilling Stories of Evil Buried Underneath the Narcos Drug Wars. I will only read this if we need it. I can finish one of these by tomorrow, maybe both. Let me what works better for you
