paege ☮︎ I have only ever read one book and finished it before moving on to another. I feel like I would get very confused if I read more than one at once but its also something that seems much more enjoyable than one at a time. How do you guys feel?

I usually read different genres at the same time so I don't get confused. I just finished an autobiography on the Appalachian Trail this morning and at lunch tim finished a Nicholas Sparks romance novel and now I'll continue with Mary Higgins Clark's last crime novel which was published posthum.

Rori | 99 comments No, one book at a time.

message 4: by Destiny (new)

Destiny | 1 comments I am a mood reader. I am also a professional editor so I am consistently juggling books. It works for me and my overactive brain. However, there are times, specifically with high fantasy, or Romantasy series where I'll read one book at a time to immerse myself completely into the world without distraction.

message 5: by Lani (new)

Lani Putthoff | 91 comments I usually do 3 books at a time

message 6: by Ruth (new)

Ruth | 26 comments I read mostly 2-4 books at a time and each from different genres

message 7: by Julie (new)

Julie Rosenberg | 0 comments I can only read one book at a time. Reading multiple books at a time seems so strange to me.

Rissa (rissasreading) (rissasreading) | 177 comments I read 2 at a time but I always make my second read a short story collection or something like that where it's super easy to pick it up and put it down and walk away from it for however long

message 9: by Kaia (new)

Kaia Wolf | 15 comments Just like Destiny and Eva above, I’m also a mood reader :)
I tend to read anywhere from 4-10 books at a time. Sometimes, however, I’ll be set on a particular book or series and be devoted entirely to it until I’m randomly… not 😂 (Looking at you, Throne of Glass series that I have YET to complete 🤦🏼‍♀️)

Doris (dorisb) | 104 comments I'm enjoying some of the comments here, and I had to add an observation. Way back in high school, I had a teacher whose ideals I admired. he noticed I was always reading and recommended "Centennial" by James A. Michener. I still remember that I read the first 7 chapters quickly. I read a bit more then put it down. For years it stared at me from the shelves as I took and read other books. It took me forever to finish, at least a decade, and I have never read another book by that author.

message 11: by Kahlila (new)

Kahlila | 4 comments It depends. During my early year in college, reading novels really helped me in finishing my mandatory readings for class (although most of the times all it does was distract me lmao). But since I have a very short attention span, so I stop reading multiple books, good thing I'm quite the fast reader (although the speed of my reading depends whether I liked the book or not).

message 12: by Mike's Bookshelf (new)

Mike's Bookshelf | 29 comments It's like the only thing I do nowadays, and I want to stop but then I see this really great graphic novel at the library and I HAVE to read that, and then my friend gets a book I've been wanting to read for a while so I borrow that, and of course I'm still waiting for a friend to give back the last book in a series that I haven't read and I leant it to her before Christmas break AVA I'M COMING FOR YOU

message 13: by Farwa (new)

Farwa (bumblebbooks) | 3 comments I never used to but these days with a busy schedule I usually am reading a physical book, one on Kindle and one Audio Book when I'm driving or can't read on the go. It's so hard to choose which book to read next lol

I've read "Chesapeake" by Michener and it took me forever to finish the book. Then in 1998 I went to the Choptank River mentioned in the book and it was worth it.

message 15: by destiny (new)

destiny | 1 comments I haven't tried it but I feel like I'll end up mixing myself up with the books I am reading and possibly forgetting something I past read - maybe one day I will give it a go.

message 16: by ଘRory (new)

ଘRory (Academic Era) nope, but I wanna give It a shot

message 17: by Madissen (new)

Madissen | 82 comments I’ve done it before but I usually prefer reading one at a time. I’ve been known to read one book and switch to another midway if my mood changes. If I do read multiple books at the same time then I read no more than 2. Takes some getting used to if you want to try it out

message 18: by ~ (new)

~ Dra (callmedra) | 28 comments Yes, I read multiples books at a time. It just helped me a lot when I bored with one book, to escape with something new. But, the downside, it will take more time to read all the books.

message 19: by Richaar (new)

Richaar | 133 comments Definitely. I'm a moodreader and I'm a woman. So my mood switches a lot. Which means I usually have a few books I read at a time.

message 20: by Gypsy (new)

Gypsy (ignited_red_queen) | 25 comments Yes, I typically listen to an audible at work and when I am home on my down time I will read a physical book .

Rew (rewsalem) | 109 comments rarely

message 22: by Vivian (new)

Vivian Paradise | 12 comments yes, but I focus on one book at a time, does that make sense?

message 23: by Ashley (new)

Ashley Nicole Hamilton | 7 comments Yes. I used to not be able to focus on more than one. But with audiobooks, which is easier for my ADHD (still I get tons of books for my neverending collection).. obsession maybe? Definitely. :) There are too many books to read to just read one at a time.

message 24: by Megan (new)

Megan (megmez) | 38 comments This is the first year I've regularly had more than one book on the go at any given time and that's mostly to do with format. I can read books from my kindle app or borrow books (e-books borrowed for free through the library) while I'm doing other things like washing up or brushing my teeth, going to the loo, eating my lunch when I'm home alone etc, It's too hard to do this with a paperback so I find I read e-books much quicker this way. I do still like to have a paperback before bed so my eyes get a rest from the screen, or at the beach because of the lighting, or on a long journey in case the battery dies on my phone or kindle. It depends on the books too. What mood I'm in. I've ended up with an upstairs book and a downstairs book! I also like having e-books on my phone as I can read wherever I am if I'm unexpectedly having to wait for ages - maybe when picking a child up from something or in a long queue.

message 25: by Pisces51 (new)

Pisces51 | 4 comments Ordinarily I absolutely read two at a time. The exception is long page length novels that I know my personal best is around 4 to 5 nights to read with my exclusive attention.I mean 500 pages or so. But if I have several novels around 250 pages or so I pair a couple of different genres up and it works great. The caveat is you have problems with putting two mysteries together for instance. Two extreme horror novels are usually fine together. It is a matter of taste I guess. I am not as productive reading one book at a time. It is limiting that I only have a few hours at bedtime to read usually 7 to 11 or 12.

message 26: by Anne (new)

Anne Esp Mass (anneespmass) | 63 comments Yes. I often read novels and mangas at the same time.

message 27: by Malissa (new)

Malissa (malissa1578) | 163 comments Yes. I read multiple books and listen to audiobooks.

message 28: by Kaytie (new)

Kaytie | 72 comments I usually have a book I'm reading with my kids, and one for book club, and one I really wanted to read and one I'm editing for work. They are usually so different it doesn't bother me to have multiples, but I can't read 2 different high fantasy books at the same time. I like being fully sucked into those worlds and don't want to confuse them in my brain.

message 29: by Kaitlyn (new)

Kaitlyn D'Errico | 26 comments I usually have one main book I’m reading, one with my brother, one or two for book clubs or buddy reads, one for school, and sometimes one that’s just if I get bored of my main one

message 30: by Liz luv (new)

Liz luv | 57 comments very much yes

message 31: by Cosmina (new)

Cosmina (cosminasbooks) | 4 comments Even more than 2 sometimes

message 32: by Kate (new)

Kate Reads | 48 comments Yes! I try to read some non fiction every day and find I am better at that in the mornings. The rest of the day I fit in as much reading as I can. But I always have a few different books in flight. I'm a true mood reader :)

message 33: by Claudia :) (new)

Claudia :) (celaureads) | 46 comments yes

message 34: by Cel (new)

Cel | 26 comments sometimes my limit is two an audiobook & a physical book

•°Dahlia ( on and off ) | 17 comments yup .. some times It can be 4 at the same time or just one , it depends on me

message 36: by Madeleine (new)

Madeleine | 20 comments hiii - I read like 3-4 books at the same time - not more than that

message 37: by Emmory (new)

Emmory | 3 comments I don’t because I prefer focusing on one story at a time. If I read multiple books at once then I eventually get the stories mixed up n stuff and it’s overall all over the place so I don’t do that 🚫🚫

message 38: by Brianna (new)

Brianna (brithebookbabe) | 59 comments Always!

message 39: by Safi (new)

Safi | 5 comments Yep, I generally have one audio, one physical and one on Kindle, sometimes multiple on all mediums.

message 40: by rowan (new)

rowan | 88 comments Naurrr I can't focus on more than one book at a time, my brain mixes up the characters and shit lmao

message 42: by Marti (new)

Marti I mean, yes, but not really. I always read several at the same time but I usually give priority to finishing one, leaving the other on pause for a bit...

message 43: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Dial | 27 comments Oh yes! I have done this for years now. If I get bored with one, I'll switch to another, and it keeps me from throwing it away unfinished, which I try not to do. I only read on my tablet and never listen to audiobooks (hearing impaired), but the digital age with Kindle and Prime subscriptions, as well as e-pubs from your local library, have given us too many books and so little time! I swear, some days I spend more time "doomscrolling" than reading. It's enough to make you want to pull your hair out. I think, "Just one more," as I scroll, and the next thing I know, an hour's gone by. Anyhow, to answer the question, the most books I've ever read simultaneously are three books.

message 44: by Deviki (new)

Deviki | 4 comments Yes, I do. I usually read multiple book if the book that I'm currently reading is going on a slow and "filler" mode. I'll read another thin/short books or comics before going back to the other book. Sometimes, I do read two books at interval if they're going through the slow pace, but one book is always a "light" read.

message 45: by Shanice (new)

Shanice Richards | 11 comments yes, sometimes I do

message 46: by Mino (new)

Mino (trashprince) I only read two books at a time if they're different enough that I don't confuse the plots lol! I'm currently reading two and so far managing to keep them separate.
