Elijah Z. (elijah6734) | 92 comments Is anyone interested in watching the Olympics this year?

message 3: by Elisabeth (Bets), Creator/Head Mod (new)

Elisabeth (Bets) (livingforjesus) | 1194 comments We never watch them so I don’t know much about them but I would be interested if it is free anywhere.

message 4: by Emily (new)

Emily Reed Wait... the Olympics are this year?!? I'm not very observant or good with time lol 🤣

message 5: by Elijah (new)

Elijah Z. (elijah6734) | 92 comments Yes, the Paris 2024 Olympics.

message 6: by Elisabeth (Bets), Creator/Head Mod (new)

Elisabeth (Bets) (livingforjesus) | 1194 comments Soo… our family doesn’t follow the news much (at all. Lol) so I’m pretty lost when it comes to world events going on right now. But I’m just curious what y’all’s take on what’s happening in the Middle East right now is?

message 7: by Jasmine (Jazzie), Assistant Mod (new)

Jasmine (Jazzie) | 848 comments @Elijah, I'm planning on watching some of the Olympics, I just wish that they had allowed softball to be there this year.

message 8: by Jasmine (Jazzie), Assistant Mod (new)

Jasmine (Jazzie) | 848 comments @Elisabeth, I don't have much of a clue about what's going on in the Middle East.

message 9: by ✧Bella✧ (new)

✧Bella✧ | 1121 comments I haven't looked at anything about the Middle East in a little while, so I don't know the latest developments.

Catherine (semi active) | 273 comments I'm very excited to watch the Olympics! I don't follow most of the sports, but I'll definitely be watching gymnastics, and probably diving, artistic swimming, and water polo.

I'm no expert about what's going on in the Middle East. I agree that Israel's going too far, but I sympathize with both sides. When it comes to campus protests, I agree with Biden: "There’s the right to protest, but not the right to cause chaos."

message 11: by Ellie Ann (new)

Ellie Ann | 28 comments My family’ll definitely watch at least some of the Olympics! My brother loves sports and I know he’ll be really excited for soccer. Personally, as a dancer, I love watching gymnastics😂😂

BooksNCrannies (booksncranniesofficial) | 552 comments Yep. My bro just turned on the radio before dinner and FOX News reported on it. It's kinda frightening but yet seems so unreal and distant. I'll have to get more details.

message 18: by [deleted user] (new)

Did you all hear about Trump’s spiritual adviser? I forget his name, but he’s an Evangelical pastor at some mega church.

Catherine (semi active) | 273 comments NO! You're kidding. Send a link??

Elisabeth (Bets) (livingforjesus) | 1194 comments Also I looked up Paula White, she’s a prosperity gospel believer and a television evangelist. *sighs*

message 25: by Elisabeth (Bets), Creator/Head Mod (new)

Elisabeth (Bets) (livingforjesus) | 1194 comments Ok wait? Am I seeing something different? I saw something about a lady that prayed against stuff for Trump. More research, here I come.

Catherine (semi active) | 273 comments Let us know what you find Bets:)

I was recently reminded of my tendency to not respect copyright as I ought to *cough cough* so I'll just share a couple things from the article.

Just the heading itself makes me balk. It's called "The Church of Trump: How He’s Infusing Christianity Into His Movement" and the subtitle's "Ending many of his rallies with a churchlike ritual and casting his prosecutions as persecution, the former president is demanding — and receiving — new levels of devotion from Republicans."

Basically, at the end of rallies, Trump acts like the pastor of a church.

"'The great silent majority is rising like never before and under our leadership,' he recites from a teleprompter in a typical version of the script. 'We will pray to God for our strength and for our liberty. We will pray for God and we will pray with God. We are one movement, one people, one family and one glorious nation under God.'"

Someone even said that "They’ve crucified [Trump] worse than Jesus.”

😡

message 27: by [deleted user] (new)

@ Catherine, yeah, that, and for other reasons, is why I've distanced myself from the Republican Party, despite being a conservative.

Have you seen that painting of Trump? Let me post it.

Catherine (semi active) | 273 comments :D 👍👍👍

Please do!

*me gasping in horror*

WHAT IS THIS

Worst painting I have ever seen!! Anyone have any rotten tomatoes??

(By the way, who's the person in the blue suit?)

message 32: by Elisabeth (Bets), Creator/Head Mod (new)

Elisabeth (Bets) (livingforjesus) | 1194 comments Well I was seeing something about this Paula lady praying against the demonic forces that had aligned themselves against trump. Let me also break some copyright rules and post

“President Trump’s spiritual adviser, Paula White, said in the opening prayer before his campaign kickoff rally in Orlando, Fla., on Tuesday that “demonic networks” have aligned themselves against the president.

“Let every demonic network that has aligned itself against the purpose, against the calling of President Trump, let it be broken, let it be torn down in the name of Jesus,” she said to a crowd of Trump’s supporters before his rally began Tuesday.{mosads}
“I declare that President Trump will overcome every strategy from hell and every strategy from the enemy,” she added, according to video of her remarks.

“I secure his calling, I secure his purpose, I secure his family, and we secure victory in the name which is above every name … the name of Jesus Christ,” she said ending her prayer. “

This is what I saw.

And then I saw tons of articles talking about Trumps spiritual advisor (a different guy) admitting to molesting a 12 year old girl.

Elisabeth (Bets) (livingforjesus) | 1194 comments I have lots of rotten tomatoes Catherine. Let’s destroy this horrendous work of.. art? I don’t think we can call it art. What shall we call it then?

Catherine (semi active) | 273 comments Ack! That is absolutely horrible. Makes me feel so icky. I feel the need to read my Bible and fill my mind with the real Truth now.

I looked Paula White up and saw that she has her own website. Scrolling down, it looks like she hosts (or helps host) this even called the "Unleashed Conference," and Danny Gokey is attending it?

https://paulawhite.org/tv-media/more-...

And how can they call "David Brinson" an apostle?? 😣

On a side note, what do y'all think about women pastors?

📚 Alana (professional book nerd) | 19 comments I totally missed this topic 🫡 wow that’s insane, Trump really is awful.

Catherine (semi active) | 273 comments Thank you so much Bets!! *receives them with a big smile and hurls them passionately*

You're right, I definitely don't think we can call it art. The best word I can think of is vandalism. I guess that doesn't quite fit, though, since it's not my property. I wish I was more well versed in synonyms for "trash."

(Too far? Let me know if I'm going too far, haha)

But my eyes! It's so offensive to my poor eyes. Ahhhhhh

Catherine (semi active) | 273 comments So true Alana!

I don't even know who David Brinson is. I don't agree with all of Danny Gokey's theology that comes through in his songs. And I saw that she was a prosperity gospel teacher, THAT I really don't agree with.

I personally don't like it. It feels wrong to me, I absolutely believe a lady can be given authority from God and teach (just look at Deborah) But I don't think it's a woman's job to be a pastor. In the new testament (I think Timothy) it says that a pastor is supposed to be the husband of one wife, I think that makes it pretty clear that men are supposed to be the pastors. And honestly I think men have better judgement sometimes when it comes to that, my mom said that we women are easier led astray than men and that's one reason she's thankful for dad to give input on stuff. Our worship leader at church is a lady, so I don't think women in positions of leadership is bad at all, but I think the pastor should be a man.

Ummm, grafiti? (Imo you're not going too far but maybe I'm going to far. lol. I can be a little outspoked)

My eyes are my property and that was vandalism to my eyes. XD

📚 Alana (professional book nerd) | 19 comments Trump makes me sick, I always try to keep the glasses on of “love the person, hate the sin” but trump has done some truly awful things. There was an island run by Jeffrey Epstein (if you look him up, please be careful, it’s truly horrible) but if I remember correctly, Trump had gone there many times.

Catherine (semi active) | 273 comments I'm not sure who he is either, they just have the audacity to call him and another dude "apostles." Bah...must go read my Bible.

Really? I haven't listened to many of Danny Gokey's songs. Do you have an example you could share?

I agree. I used to struggle to come to terms with 1 Timothy 2:11-12 (“A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent”). This article helped a lot in case anyone's interested: https://www.gotquestions.org/women-pa...

Yeah I wish I could remember what my pastor said about that passage. He had a sermon on it. In the culture that a lot of our church people come from (Mennonites) women are not allowed to lead in church AT ALL. Like my grandparents would probably be a little horrified that our worship leader is a woman (With loose hair and jeans no less *horrors* lol). So our pastor had a sermon on that passage. I can't remember what he said tho. lol

📚 Alana (professional book nerd) | 19 comments I know that from what I have read- and so discussed with my dad, it’s not what Gods plan is. In the Bible (I can’t quote it exactly - I’m not exactly sure where it is- maybe genesis…) it says that man is over woman, and that wives are supposed to submit to their husbands. Men are supposed to be the more uhh superior is the wrong word, but they are the heads of the household. My dad brings up a good point, men do tend to have a lot less emotions, and can make more rational decisions. While I dislike this view (😅) i do think it’s correct, and should be considered.
(That might have made no sense…. Oops lol)
