You can always mention that you'd like to play with x and y, but we cannot guarantee that you will be placed all together on a single team. Numbers and all that jazz :-)

Normally I'm antisocial and weird but I've decided to join and be social and weird. I read a lot so hopefully I can help my team :D
Being social online is definitely easier (for me anyways) than being social in person.

In the 2nd post of this thread there is now a list to the sign up list, given the number of queries we are getting about whether people have signed up or how many books they have signed up for.
If you want to make changes, please message the mod account, not individual mods. As you may have noticed from the above list, names get duplicated so if you can add a link to the GR profile if you are asking for someone other than yourself, that can help a bit.
Thanks for including the shelf names. I'd completely forgotten what I'd put 😆

So many talk about UNO that I really feel left out. I'm pretty sure I should be in on that. I don't recall ever seeing an announcement for it so I might not be part of that group even. 🤔 Well what's another reading challenge group? The more the merrier right?
Uno's great and you should check it out next time. It's less competitive than Towers but still has the team element, themes, and mini-tasks. It's run by the Perks of a Book Addict group and sign-ups are usually at the beginning of the year.
I LOVE a team challenge! I'm super excited. Have I ever done an NBRC challenge before? I think not but am eager to start!
Maybe I missed this somewhere, but do you know when you'll start announcing the teams? And yes, a couple weeks' break is probably good (and definitely thanks for the restraint there, LOL) but I'll be ready to get back at it. What else was I planning to do this summer anyway, right?? ;)

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENTOk, anyone who buys audiobooks on audible (specifically the UK branch, but it may well apply to others too).
after a long and fruitless debate on audible help chat about all of my Daphne du Maurier books which have gone missing, I discovered that when the rights for a book run out, they remove it not only from the store, but from individual accounts too. So even if you own the book, you won't be able to access it anymore.
Now, if you contact them and complain, they'll forward you a credit for the book (useless for getting the same book again, because said rights have elapsed, so no book available to buy).
If you don't contact them, they keep conveniently quiet about it.
That is very wrong, IMO, as they say you own the book when you buy it. I feel they should at least contact you to let you know those books are being pulled from your library. I have said as much, and will be looking to see what higher-up to email with complaints about this.
Anyway, my suggestion is if you buy titles from Audible, keep track of them somewhere, and save your confirmation emails. For ever. Or until you no longer care about the book 😆
This may not be an issue for most people, but for book-a-day listeners like myself, it's yet another thing to take up time and effort. 🤦🏼♀️
ETA: this is about bought titles, not audible+ ones. Those we expect to disappear!
Very good advice, Sammy. I only noticed one of my books went recently missing on the US site and contacted them about it and they put it back, but indeed they keep mumm about it and it is very wrong!!

Well damn!I stopped downloading audio books quite a while ago, and just use the "play now" feature, which is streaming, I guess. There is no way they could grab back a book once it is downloaded to your computer or phone though, right?
Perhaps the solution is that they warn people who own the titles that are going away to download them onto a device. That would be good corporate policy.
I have an old iPod filled with audible books that I downloaded onto it. I have a vague memory of Rebecca being one of the books I own on audio. Now I want to find my iPod and see if it is still there.
I don't know if you can save them anywhere except in the app, or if you did if you can play them anywhere except in the app. something to look into!You might still have access to duMaurier books though, as it may just be UK or european rights that have lapsed.

If the device the book is downloaded on isn't connected to the internet, it shouldn't disappear. If it is connected to the internet, whatever the provider wants to do may happen. I'm really sad this happened to you, Sammy, but it's good to finally have a concrete example of services actually pulling this stuff because I've long been concerned about it. I'm pretty sure it's in the ToS (but who reads those) that "buying" you will not have lifetime access, but only access as long as the platform is willing to provide it to you – which is obviously extremely messed up obviously! This is true for all platforms selling you digital downloads that you're only supposed to access via their platform, by the way...
I recommend consulting the internet about how to download those files so you'll permanently have them on your device 🙃 it's actually pretty easy...
Problem is storing them... I definitely don't have room for over 1000 audiobooks on my phone 😆And my PC is ALWAYS connected to the internet, lol.

If you download them properly and remove the DRM, you can keep and play them on your computer whenever you want 😉
I can't listen to them on my computer, I need them portable 😉But I'll look into apps that may work in that case, and can move what I need to my phone when I need them.
Does the DRM need to be removed if you're just saving a copy on your PC? because I don't fancy going through all 1380 of them removing it unless I have to! 😆

I'm glad I always keep all my emails, but I didn't think that the books could be removed from my audible account. So I'll keep an eye out if anything is missing for me too
Another not-nice experience I had was when I pre-ordered a book on amazon (the special edition of iron flame) and they just removed my order when they realised they couldn't fulfil it, without letting me know! I thought I was going crazy, but luckily I had the email still as proof (to myself) that I even had ordered it, because on my account there was no trace of it anywhere anymore
