This months buddy read of A Harp in Lowndes Square by Rachel Ferguson.

Susan in NC (susanncreader) | 461 comments I bought this one on sale for kindle, will try to get to it, but I’m not sure when. The 3.49 stars rating, and terms like “ghost story” and “horrifying” don’t generally appeal to me, definitely not in the mood right now!

Lisa Brantly | 83 comments okay - this is great - but unlike anything I've ever read. as I type that, in remembering "Never let me Go" - which you spend the first half trying to figure out. I like it. I will definitely read more Ferguson if this is how she writes.

I have started it, and I'm making slow progress. I have been busy this weekend so reading it in snatches; I do think it is a book that would benefit from concentrating on and reading in chunks. Lisa - I do think this one is similar in style to other books of hers I've read, though I haven't read many. I'm hoping to get a bit of time to read tomorrow.

Pamela (bibliohound) | 128 comments I’ve finally managed to get going with this one, and I’m liking it a lot. I agree with Tania, it’s a book that needs some concentrated attention. It is definitely very quirky, I’m intrigued to see where it’s going.

Well, quirky is a great description. It certainly wasn't predictable. At no point was I able to guess where the story would take me.

Pamela (bibliohound) | 128 comments That was such an odd book. I enjoyed the Lowndes Square plot line, but less entertained by the Cosmo one - bit of a weird set up and I found Cosmo and Enid tedious. The book seemed a mish mash of Gothic melodrama, domestic romance, theatrical drama - and didn’t always bring it together.

I’d give it 3.5*, it was quirky, had some modern ideas (Vere was an unconventional heroine, there were some interesting ideas around the nature of time and trauma), but parts dragged a bit.
