I've allowed that in the past, but it needs to be specific. 'A man' is not specific, but something like 'a man's right hand' would be.

Can MM Romance be taken as a trope?

Thanks"

MM Romance is not a trope, it is a sub-genre. Something like 'fake boyfriend' or 'GFY' is a trope.

Does it just need a MPG historical? or does it have to meet a certain time frame?"

I am assuming you mean for Task 92? If that is the case, a 'historical' (or 'futuristic') tag is sufficient to qualify a book. If you are looking for a specific date, for example if you are using the precis and it begins "London, 1940", the date needs to be a minimum of 25 years in the past (or future) to qualify.

But I think any of us over the age of 25 finds that number hysterically low!

MountainKat | 31593 comments I am about to go through the team threads again, hopefully everyone has checked in by now. If not, I will allow until tomorrow morning and if they are still missing they may be removed from the challenge. I sincerely hope no teams will need to be adjusted. 🤞🏼

I will get team names updated this evening as I work my way through the team threads.

MountainKat | 31593 comments If you asking questions about specific tasks, please know that details for each task will be provided when/if the task is assigned to your team.

If you need more info for planning purposes, please include the task number from the list of possible tasks. It makes it much quicker and easier (for me at least) for you to get an answer.

Thanks!

No need to reserve posts for tracking (that is mostly used in PtP and Bachelor). Most only have posts to save team decisions. I will check all new posts when I check your books after someone on the team says you are finished with a task.

MountainKat | 31593 comments First Task - All Teams!

Task 1 - Each teammate reads a book initially published in April of any year OR a book with flowers on the cover - teams decide. No pass for this task.

April showers bring May flowers. Or so the saying goes… It’s been mostly snow showers for us lately, though my daffodils are trying valiantly to bloom! As a team, decide if you are reading books initially published in April of any year OR books with flowers on the cover. (Please note that says ‘flowers’ - plural. Your book must have more than one flower on the cover to qualify.) If the team has decided on April for this task, you will be using the initial publication date - if there is a date at the top of the editions page USE IT! Otherwise I will be looking for the earliest dated English language edition of any format for the qualification. If the team has decided on flowers on the cover, you may use any edition’s cover to qualify your book. The qualifying cover must distinctly and clearly show more than one flower on the cover. Please include the qualifying cover in your completion post. Remember to use the first edition Kindle page count. No pass for this task.

message 70: by MountainKat, Moderator (new)

MountainKat | 31593 comments I wanted to let you all know that I will not be on GR tomorrow. We are away from home and while I will be on my phone a lot, I will not be getting notifications from GR nor will I be checking in. Fortunately, no teams will be eligible for a new task before Monday. But I will not be available to answer questions - so get them asked today!

Yes, I'm going to my happy place but will have the 'littles' (who aren't that little anymore!) with us. They are obviously the priority and will kill my phone battery at least once now that Disneyland makes you do everything on your phones! So no GR. 😊

And Monday, I have a couple of appointments but have everything ready to go on my phone. So I likely won't be checking books until that evening or Tuesday morning, but will be assigning new tasks. Hopefully before noon. 🤞🏼

MountainKat | 31593 comments Kat wrote: "Do we have a certain date to read the book by?"

No, teams go at their own pace. You can take a low stress approach or be in it to win it. (I will say that every winner has always gotten a new task every other day.)

MountainKat | 31593 comments Michaele wrote: "Do they have to be MPG romance? I didn't see that in the rules, but thought i should double check."

No, that is Bachelor. They must be fiction though. From the signup thread:

There is a 150 page minimum for books, rereads and audios ok. Books may only be used once per player during the challenge. Players may read the same book for a task unless otherwise specified. Books do not have to be romance, but must be fiction.

LaurLa | 5085 comments MountainKat wrote: "If the team has decided on April for this task, you will be using the initial publication date - if there is a date at the top of the editions page USE IT!"

MKat, the default sorting for the Editions page is by number of ratings... this means the first published edition is not always at the top of the editions page - it usually is because that tends to be the default and most often rated, but... If we notice that the first book listed isn't actually the initial publication date, should we still use it?

Here is an example (not an April book but just as an example) - the initial pub date is the 4th listed (at least for me)
Now You See Her

Edit: on the other hand, the main book page does list the first publication date on each edition, so wonder why you don't have us use that for qualification?

For the book in your example - the date at the top of the editions page is September 1, 1998. If there is a date there, use it! Always use that date if it is listed. Otherwise, I will be digging through the list of editions (no matter how large) to find the earliest dated English language edition for the qualification.

What I am looking for is the initial publication date, I don't care what the date is for individual editions. I believe is there is a date listed as the 'first published' date on the main book page it is the same as the date at the top of the editions page. I would not swear to that (I am not a librarian) and I know that not all books have that date included.

If you want me to check a specific book, I am happy to do so.

MountainKat | 31593 comments I believe I have assigned new tasks for the teams that have posted here. But I got up at 4:30 yesterday morning and got home at 1:30 this morning to a freezing cold house. (Not quite literally, but it was freezing outside and the wood stove was cold.) All this to say, I could have easily missed something, so please comment here again if I did.
