SOLVED. YA Sci Fi Trilogy(?) about 4-5 teens who escape captivity from the government - dystopian society. Spoiler.

I read the two books during the summer of 2016, and either at the end of that year or in 2017, the last book came out. I remember this because I was so excited and checked it out from the library as soon as it was available.

I can’t remember if the characters had names or identification numbers.

The story opens with the MC boy lying on the ground in the middle of a desert with the sun beating down on him. An automobile of some sort comes and hover over him, picking him up, but he is barely conscious. He wakes up later inside of the vehicle and some other teens talk to him for a bit.

I believe it was in the second book that they dug a tunnel underground to escape a prison cell or holding room - by the government. They had uncovered some secrets and were then escaping because of what they learned. The MC and a girl fall in love at some point. Also, in the second(?) book, the group of teens are running through a forest from soldiers and guards, then the forest sets on fire and they have to either outrun it or hide - I think someone dies during this part.
