Completion post: Week 9PTP 9. Small town

Review:
This was an enjoyable read. I loved the way Ms. Macomber showed how true love overcomes obstacles, distance, our own preconceived prejudice and plans. Rorie was a city gal and Clay was a horse rancher from a small town. Their meeting was “accidental” but I think fate played a part in this. Clay has an understanding with a local gal and the entire town has them married with children. Rorie has been dating someone for a few months, but when the two of them meet, it is instant love at first sight. It was very interesting how many well-meaning people conspired to keep them apart, but their biggest obstacles came from within. This was a fictional story, but it mirrors life. You may meet your Mr./ Ms. Right halfway across the country or on another continent. They could be of a different race, religious background, or social standing. True love has no boundaries.

Yes, I cried again. Yes, I loved it again. Yes, I can't wait to read more! And yes, I'd forgotten parts, especially a critical part that I am still wanting to learn more about.

This one had me tearing up! That was not expected at all. I have enjoyed this series, but the books haven't really tugged at my heart like this one did. I loved it!
I was especially fond of Dev and Katya throughout the book, but as they fell in love, I fell right along with them. I loved listening to their relationship develop, as her memory came back and he let his defenses down. This book really advanced the story as well, we learned a lot about all of the parties and there were some surprises too! I thought how various parts of the story were interwoven throughout really worked with the amnesia theme - we got all the pieces but didn't know hot they went together until the story evolved.
As usual, Angela Dawe and the narration were wonderful!

Oh interesting! I remember skipping this book when I first read the series since I didn’t like Dev from the previous books. Perhaps I should give it a read
I don't know why these characters grabbed me so much, but they did. And there are lots of storylines advanced too. I am the type of reader (and TV watcher) that forgets details, so rereads/reruns are usually quite enjoyable for me. Things happened in this book that I couldn't with any certainty say are fully dealt with yet in the series. But, I am finding little things that I am understanding more fully after starting the series over this time. And I have an even greater appreciation for the author and this complex world she created!

I also skipped Blaze of Memory. Pretty sure it's the only one in that series I haven't read. Which is odd since I do enjoy amnesia books. Might need to revisit that choice sometime!

For #7, Touch the Lightning by N.R. Walker, 208 pages and a little over 5 hours in audio at 1x. I tagged it "beach", but did that obviously before the task begins. This would be a reread for me, so I know the tag is valid.
For #10, I have Rafe by Sawyer Bennett, 121 pages and under 4 hours in audio at 1x. It is tagged 'sports-ice-hockey' 1x.
Since those are all in the middle of series, I'm not sure they would be good options for anyone else. But the options for #4 and #10 are 1001 Dark Nights books and while set in the same 'worlds' aren't as involved in other series storylines. 🤷🏻♀️
These are all rereads for me and I usually listen at 1.5x or a little faster depending on the narrator, so the longest any of them would take me is 3 hours. Honestly, those three tasks were the most difficult for me to find short options too. I do have Option 2 books for most teams - I would be doing one of the In Death novellas for that. So, since I will be home on Friday I could switch to that depending on my mood.

This one got me teary eyed a couple times! I wish there was less attempting at create love triangles cause they aren't my cuppa but the "mystery" kept me entertained.

Murder by the Brush by S.E. Babin

Review: I need more development of the main characters, but I think it's intended to make me finish the series. They have a slightly shorter length so I'm sure you'll have time to finish them. A good book to read in relaxation day.

This was just as delightful as I remembered! I love Lawson and Jack. They mesh so well together. I'm really glad I chose this book to reread to end out a challenge. The only problem is that now I want to reread the rest of the series too.

Thoroughly enjoyed this story! The only downfall is that it wasn't longer so I could have more!
I listened to the audio and also enjoyed Antony Ferguson's performance.

I don’t understand why the average rating is in the 3s for this book. It was funny and delivered what a 100 page book is capable of. And I love this author’s writing. Every time I read this book, I tell myself that I’ll get to the rest of the series and never do lol. Maybe this time?

Short stories still need to have beginning middles and ends to give them a point. I mean this only has a beginning and I guess an end? The entire thing was just them annoyed at each other or not really since it was only from Mara's pov. There's also 1 really awkward sex scene that takes up a little less than a quarter of the end of the book. Quite literally pointless. Make the epilogue from Liam's pov and tie the whole thing together. Instead of that odd grocery store scene. I get it's 100 pages but this needed so much more.

This is Book 8 of the 12 Dukes of Christmas series. Set in regency England, Meg’s character is refreshing. She is not the typical needle working, pianoforte playing virginal young lady. She embraces being on the shelf and enjoys being a “spinster” and engages in illicit one-time liaisons with male tourist that take her fancy. She also is in love with Lucien Le Duc but he doesn’t give her, or any other English lady, the time of day. Lucien, on the other hand, can’t get Meg out of his mind and tries to stay away from her. From the time his parents died, Lucien and his siblings were rescued by their English uncle, at age 13, he’s had one goal: to return to France, reclaim his family’s lands, and marry a French lady. Lucien acted like his life would only begin once he left England and doesn’t realize how elitist and closed minded, he was being by refusing to learn English and appreciate living in England until challenged by his English twin niece and nephew. It is very easy to cling to the familiar things from our past but Lucien hiring Meg as a tutor change everything for the two of them. Lucien wants permanence with a French lady and Meg wants to remain a spinster, but they can’t keep away from each other and eventually engage in an affair. Lucien was the best, most thoughtful lover Meg ever had, even taught her a few things about love making. I laughed at Meg’s shock when he told her she was his first lover. This was a cute easy read. I enjoyed the antics of these two and how open they were with each other.

What a great start to this series, which centers around Jahleel, Duke of Torrance and the recently widowed Viscountess, Lady Catherine Hampton. Catherine is the oldest Wilcox sister and Jahleel’s first love. The youngest Wilcox sister, Little five-year old Lydia, is adorable, honest, and forthright in her speech. The third oldest, Scarlett, is super smart and wants to study medicine. The second oldest, Georgina, is musically talented and a great baker of biscuits but is afraid of performing in public. Jahleel spared no expense and time to ensure that the Wilcox sisters kept their home and coal mine. He truly cared for the Wilcox sisters, and loved Catherine but she treats him abominably. Jahleel won’t give up on her and bet that he could find husbands for the two of Wilcox sisters. If he wins, Catherine must agree to marry him. In actuality, they were married before and he just wants to win back Catherine’s love. Frankly, Catherine’s attitude got on my nerves, by insisting on honoring her worthless, lying, gambling deceased husband, Tavis’s memory, she placed the future of her sisters and herself in peril. Meanwhile, Georgina Wilcox and Lord Mark Sebastian, acting on their mutual attraction to each other caused a scandal. The removal of the scandal and Georgina and Mark staying in each other’s presence, long enough to fall in love, was mainly due to the Jahleel’s machinations. On another note, though this is a work of fiction, many parts of this book were based on historical facts. The accounts of how Blackmores and mulato were treated by whites in England are true. What is even more and disheartening, is that this negative attitude is still present in England and America today. Also, the roles women could play and even the employment men the ton could hold, were ridiculously ridged.
